Need A Little help Please

I have a similar problem with my 72 Dart running a 382 stroker 360. I'm running W2 race ported heads, with a Comp Cams full roller with gross lift of .654 intake, .655 exhaust, duration at .050 269 intake, 276 exhaust. Lash is set at .022 int & exh. Running 5.13 gear in a D60. Holley 1050 Dom in Eddy Victor intake. MSD 7AL with crank trigger. 727TF built by LJ Transmissions in Colebrook, NH. Supposedly a 4400 rpm Turbo Action Converter, but have already determined the stall is no where near that. 60' times between 1.49 to 1.52, running a 14X32X15 tire. 1/8th mile ETs 6.70s at 104, best 1/4 ET 1.49 @ 124.
Having the converter loosened up to match the cam over the winter. Lou at LJ transmissions is going to go through the trans and install a transbrake for me, he's also going to go through the engine for me as this is a combo he developed some years ago and according to him with how my car is set up it has high 9s potential.

I agree. I think if the OP isn't 100% sure where the cam is degreed at, he needs to verify that. At the very minimum he needs to pull the valve cover and look at the rocker arms on crossover (overlap) and that should at least let him know if the cam timing is even relatively close.

I usually don't put that in somebody's automatic thread, I just roll my eyes and go forward and think that they have to win automatically....
I guess the worst part is when I hear people sending their Transmissions away to be rebuilt or worked over when it's easier than falling out of bed to rebuild a 904...

Huh....... I kinda saw it as “get the cam and converter on the same page, re-test...... change gears if necessary”.

As for the “not enough cam”........ that is def not the problem.
I think the problem he can't remember his mom's maiden name...lol..:poke:...

Well, not all of us are fortunate enough to have the knowledge base, or all of the proper tools to rebuild our own transmissions. That's why I prefer a professional do it.

First I'm shocked @Cudafever doesn't know how to rebuild his own transmission! Certainly rebuilding that Holley carburetor was much more intricate...
So first of all let's just start by stomping out this automatic transmission Boogeyman. Probably perpetuated by transmission Folk who will tell you that there's things you don't know and say all kinds of Boogeyman scary stuff to make you not try it yourself... remember the old days the tranny starting to slip so you better sell the car?..
First off when I rebuilt my first transmission a couple years ago I had no book and just some YouTube videos and a very gracious member sent me a Factory manual DVD...
Second 99% of my tools are from Harbor Freight... There was only one special tool needed and I actually used a bent piece of c bar and my vice in lieu of it... If you want to get super crazy you might buy some bushing setting tools which is just a round piece of metal the same size as the bushings to pound it in straight..
Taking off the tail housing I think was four bolts and a c clip. Then tighten the front band adjuster which is the only bolt sticking out with a set screw so the guts don't fall out when you pull the pump off the front... Valve body is the two or three screen bolts and the 10 bolts that hold the valve body on... The standard way to take the pump off the front is to take all 6 bolts out and to the side boats have inner threads to grab it by and slide hammer it out which I did that like a rookie the first time that watch the video and a guy just stuck a screwdriver from behind and gave it a whack in the pump flew out... then you remove the front drum by loosening the band and the rear drum comes out and then you can pull the entire shaft out and that's it... You take the snap ring off the front drum and replace the Rings clutches and seals it's obvious when you pull it off. You do the same to the rear..
I went ahead and put a transgo 3 shift kit making it a full manual shift transmission...
It was by far the best automatic transmission I'd ever driven... it was neat to look at my friends when I shifted the transmission and they look at me like wow that is the way it's supposed to shift nice crisp not banging but crisp and right on cue..
of course this blew my head up and gave me confidence to do my buddies 350 turbo for his 6. 6 Trans Am.. it was a little more difficult as it just had twice as much of everything it seems like for what seemed like the same results and he's enjoying his ta...
this hillbilly I watch new like 13 videos and they're dry very dry but funny because well he's a hillbilly.. so as far as space he was doing it in his kitchen LOL...

You can just see used a 2 foot by 8 foot sheet of plywood that I had ripped at the hardware store and set it up on two chairs as a workbench for this temporary project and it worked perfect...
Now if anything ever goes wrong with the transmission you'll know exactly what it is and why and how to fix it..
It was about $120 for the rebuild kit and about $85 or so for the transgo stage 3 shift kit...

What was going on at PIR today? If a Jpar would have told me you were going down there I would have stopped in on my way home. Unless you got down there after noon or so. I didn't want to leave any later than that.
 
I have a 727 video that will take you step by step in rebuilding it....made by the ATSG.....to train tech...you send me your email address i can send you a link to download it from Gmail...as it is several gigs in size......as said you would not believe how easy a 727/904 are to rebuild.....

Been to the overlook many many times. Used to bowl Monte Carlo at interstate lanes and take my winnings and eat there. And Jubitz, the Twilight Room (been thrown outta that rat hole so many times...think I hold the record...and I went to school with the owners kids!!!) Dads, The Wishing Well and The New Portland Rose (worked there), Lung Fung, The Kenton Club...all the dives all over NoPo.

Lung Fung was in southeast Portland on 82nd and Division.. used to be behind Albertsons and Builders Square which that whole entire area now is a community college...

Well no special tools were needed for the 4 speed rebuild.. For some reason I think the automatic was easier as there was no getting the gears to fit kind of thing...
Even an automatic transmission Builder had to build his first transmission at one point...

When he does send you that video and he will.. remember it's going to be very dry and take patients to listen through all the important parts..
For example I help people restore their cars and you'll be amazed at the people who just won't read the instructions to their carburetor. one of my last customers had an older Chevy truck that he was getting running and put a brand new Holley carburetor on it from Summit. He said I just threw it on and it ran great! I agreed it ran fine but as we all know any carburetor can use just a little adjustment according to the engine that it's on... I asked if him if he knew how to adjust his new carburetor and he didn't have a clue.. So I got on the summit website and looked up his carburetor and looked up the manual and I actually read the manual!? And then in the tuning part of the manual I read that twice to make sure I understood it fully.. Then the next day I come to my customers house and I look like some kind of carburetor Guru because I know how to do simple adjustments on his carburetor... My Edelbrock carburetors I can adjust with a blindfold on... I never knew how to work on either one of them till I did...

There's plenty of places on the internet where you can live chat with a Certified mechanic for a price...
Maybe you have an idea here for a new section for the forum called "mondaine direct information" where no opinions are allowed and only professional mechanics can answer...

You'd be surprised at how many people read something like this and end up rebuilding their own transmission...
And are extremely satisfied with it...
 
One thing that isn’t surprising....... is you making numerous posts on a thread where you have don’t have anything useful to offer pertaining to the topic of the thread, but still find it necessary to interject unrelated info about your car to the conversation.

It’s like when two people are having a conversation, and someone wanders up and interrupts and just starts yammering about something totally unrelated to the original conversation...... invariably talking about their own ****.

Case in point...... the thread is about sorting out an 1/8 mile bracket race combination......
and you come up with......

Not to mention, if I was looking around on this site for advice or help in deciding whether or not I wanted to rebuild a transmission........ I wouldn’t be trying to find it in “help me sort out my combo” type threads.
