My son has a 1988 Dodge D150 2 wheel drive truck with the 5.2 engine with factory FI. It looks like every gasket on it is leaking oil. Lol he is wanting to replace the intake gaskets. So I looked the parts up on Orileys auto parts website and it shows two diffrent size intake gaskets for the 5.2. They are listed as large port and small port. So with out taking it apart how can you tell which port size the intake has. I am thinking sense it has the 5.2 that it would have the small port. But I am unsure so I figured It would be best to ask. Thanks Bobby

IIRC the magnum exhaust port is possibly 360 sized. there is a great post on this here somewhere.

I had an 89 factory TBI engine that I converted to carb in my Duster about 15 years ago. It had the 4323302 cylinder heads which have the small ports. This won't be a magnum engine.

The large port are the 318 police engines with the 4 barrel carb. As far as i know, no other version of the 318 had the large ports.

Unless not original, that's a 318, not a 5.2

It'll be small port, I've got both an 87 and a 90 318 each with 302 heads, they are both small ports. Check Rock Auto, I find their listings more accurate than the box store listings in most cases

A 318 is a 5.2L, just depends on the measurement unit used. i'll bet the factory emissions decal on the truck says its a 5.2L.

And in Mopar world, it's a 318 until the Magnum line came out in '92/'93, at which point it's a 5.2. A 5.2 and a 318 have the same displacement but are not necessarily the same engine line. 318 is LA, 5.2 is Magnum.

Everyone calls the later engine magnum engines. Most people I know even call the later ones 318 and 360 magnums. Even the 80's Dodge ads use liters. I believe this ad is 1989...

In any case, the original poster is talking about a TBI engine which is an LA or pre-magnum engine

Thank you every one for answering my question. I was pretty sure his had the small ports but just wanted to make sure. Also sorry I should of said 318 and not 5.2 because his is a LA 318. Guess I am just used to saying 5.2 from messing with my 5.9 magnum lol.

good
pull the valve cover and get the number off the head you could have the later heads with the better combustion chamber
Is 88 a hyd roller cam?
do the timing chain
small port heads will work fine in your truck as a truck
the large port heads drop the compression and you have to rev it up to get the flow back
large port will make more top end power but less grunt torque
be happy
