Best deal you’ve ever made on old cars

I got an '84 GLH, one owner car for free back in '04.

Backin the 80's and 90's Mopars were plentiful and cold be found for cheap. I had MY cars and and my "trader" cars that were for sale or parts. I always had 6-8 project cars for sale and advertised in MCG. I had a few times that someone contacted me with the story of " I have this car and I can not sell it here in XXXX, would you be interested in it X$$$$?"" Traveled from Mo to Ok for a complete running driving AAR Cuda plus a 70 cuda 318 roller for $1500. Then the guy from Mn that called, he had real 70 hemi Cuda that the engine mounts had been torched of the k, missing the shaker, just a rust free roller, for $1500. The hemi cuda was missing the dash vin but I found it in the trunk as I looked the car over. I restored the AAR, it brought $9500, and I sold the Hemi Cuda after it sat for about 3 years till bout 93, it sold to Ca for $10,000 with a description and mailing a couple of pics.
Funny part was I hardly ever could sell a restored car locally!!!! just cheap projects.

Oh man, I forgot my current '68 Charger $16,665. Just bought it a couple months ago. 383/727 numbers car. I've been looking for one for quite a while that was under a million $. Bought it in Canada that's why the weird number. Guy had it since 1986, recently passed away and I bought it from his sons. Great shape inside and out, will paint in spring. Think it's a big time score in this shape. I've looked at a LOT of duds that were more than this.

My '64 Sport Fury Convertible, 426 Engine. 500.00 from a wrecking yard in 1981. Complete but very rough.

I paid $600 for my 62 Lancer complete non runner in bout 2014. I have done the body/paint, figure I might could get $700 for it today!

Almost forgot

Last time my bronco broke down, I had a buddy tow it to his house and just signed the title over to him

That was probably my best deal

a 50 bucks 68 rr coupe roller , 68 gtx track pack car 450 bucks , 69 rr coupe body 25 bucks , 69 gtx driver 600 bucks , 69 dart gts 75 bucks , a 70 charger rt 1000 bucks , 70 rt challenger 440 6 pck 1500 bucks . still got that challenger and the 69 gts . the 68 rr i sold for 600 bucks to a kid for his first car , and 69 rr became parts for my other 69 rr . sold some i should have kept , i started buying them in the 80's , had quite a few , even had twelve challengers one year . they where just used cars . or how about my 1500 buck boss 302 mustang , ect ..... the list is long .

Bought a 69 M code 440 notchback barracuda with frame damage at a storage auction for $6900. Kept it for a while then determined it cost more than I could afford to restore it so ended up selling it for $14k.

In 1976, I bought a 65 Barracuda, 273 automatic for $25. Found it on the back row of the Oldsmobile dealership. Put a battery in it and drove it home. In the mid 80's, I bought a 70 Challenger R/T roller for $75. 383 4 spd car with AC. FK5 with white interior. I sold it in 79 for $3500 to a dude from Switzerland.

Chasing these old Mopars and parts was really fun back n the 80's and 90's. Easy to find and still cheap. If you figure in inflatoin many are still cheap, problem is the ones you find now would not have even been considered decent parts cars back then!

My first car in 1973 was a '65 four door Valiant V-8 with a burned exhaust valve: $125.00 (that became my bracket racer)

Then about the same time, a 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix 389 V-8 for $100.00. (that became my daily driver)

Much later, circa 1995, a non-running older Ford Ranger for $100.00--spent about $15.00 installing a new timing belt and drove it home (that we sold for a couple of grand)!

About 2000, paid $2,000.00 for a 1992 Jeep Cherokee (two-wheel drive) from the original owners who had a new Jeep Cherokee in their garage. Still have it as a spare vehicle with 180,000 miles on it.

P.S. We are talking about US dollars here. And forgot one, in 1995 purchased a 1985 Dodge Caravan (cargo version-two front bucket seats only) with a busted out rear window for $700.00. That was my daily driver (four-cylinder 5-speed) until about 2005 when it quit on the freeway and I gave it away to a friend.

Not to mention my current daily driver with 285,000 mile on the odometer. But this is a hand-me-down from Dad, who purchased the fully-loaded 1996 Dodge Dakota 3.9L five-speed new from the dealer.

Sold!! I would absolutely give you 7 bills.

The problem is ol country we live in is too massive and that creates a problem getting large items from one side to the other.

if i had only know where these cars would have got to , the first gas crunch , prices doubled over night . 2500 bucks would have bought hemi rr's rt's cuda's all day long in town . just think of the collection . i was just in my twenty's with my father paying me , and a short time as a beginning draftsman , was driving my 70 boss 302 with a pump't motor , got 4 mpg as a town'r , sold it for 3500 bucks . there was no way he would have kept them all . i did hang on to a few , last night i was thinking on and the best buys are my old p/us as follows first a 37 d100 for 300 bucks , second was a 37 d100 for 200 bucks , third 36 for 100 bucks , and the fourth 38 d100 for 400 bucks . bought most my stuff way back when , to save for mt retired live , sold some , cut some . space was an issue . so the fleet shortened . but still kept my old stuff .

Actually I was exeragerating. (Spelling!?),, I did paint it couple years ago and priced it with other cars as I was moving to Tx for $1500. Not a soul even asked about it!! Body work/paint done! ha Wife has chosen it now as "hers", she likes its "unique" looks. My original purchase price for it actually was $600.
The Toad was a pace car for a dirt track up in NE Mo. for many years!! Originally had a place for flags on the fenders, two way radio, and has a small plaque on the dash said it participated in some road course race way back. Ha

This thread really shows the age of some of you guys :p

The old days used to be 3 to 5 hundo for a decent car. The peak of my car days when I bought the majority of what I have now was 2006 to now and now a days your old 500. Dollar car is now a 1500. Hundred dollar car.

Even still, good deals still come around. Bought my scamp for storage fees of $220. After a guy I knew couldn't pay it and fell on hard times.

I bought my current '69 Dart from an eBay ad about 10-12 years ago. I don't remember the $$$ number, but thought I was getting a pretty good deal.
When it rolled off the transporter and I had a chance to check it out I found, in addition to it being complete with all trim and a full interior, it also came with:
* a brand new never-fired 380-horse 360 crate motor (swapped the single-plane M1 intake for a brand new Edelbrock RPM airgap intake)
* brand new 770-cfm Holley Street Avenger (will be up for sale soon)
* unknown brand used headers (since sold)
* freshly rebuilt 727 (since sold)
* already replaced later-model BBP front disc brakes
* already swapped-in B-body 8.75 rear end with a 489 pig and Sure-Grip
* brand new in-the-box Auto Meter guages the previous owner had purchased for a planned-for Rocky Mountain Dash (will be up for sale soon)
* brand new in-the-box B&M MegaShifter (will be up for sale soon)
* brand new carpet
* complete bench seat interior (bench seat sold and shipped to Australia)
* brand new 3-inch dia. exhaust and mufflers

When I figured up the (10 years ago) purchase price of everything that came with the car, I got the car itself for free.

Not me, but my dad picked up a 79 LRT with a 440 in it, A spare 440 and a bed full of what not... $500 a year ago.
