Dartin for Divorce

I got home late last night between patients and studying. Took the cart and box out of my suv and put them in the garage. Left early this morning and first text I get from my wife was "Um do you want to talk to me about the 2 new huge boxes in the garage?" lol.
"uhh, i thought you bought those for me"

So the HF closest to my house hasn't put the icons on display yet, they are getting put out next Tuesday. So next Tuesday I will get my pick of 2 44in roller chest and a 26in roller chest, all will be marked down as open box, says the store manager (I think she thinks I have a cute butt)

For now here's the setup. There is actually a good amount of tool space between the two. Part of me wants to get the 26in box since that will be plenty big enough and the other part of me wants the 44in but I really think it will be overkill for my tools. Plus I may be able to get the 26in box for under 200, or essentially 1/2 the cost of the 44.

I'm going to straighten up everything this weekend and hopefully have a little time to work on the dart. I only have 2 exams next week lol.

I have thought about getting more tool boxes so I can organize things better and store more things, then decided its better to not have more storage as I tend to get more things to put in there, another vicious cycle LOL

Did a bunch of nothing on the car this weekend but spent some great time with the family and got most of our Christmas shopping done.

I was going to buy a toolbox this weekend with the black friday sales but the Sam's club one was discounted and I like getting deals. Thought about the harbor freight 44in but decided I wanted the 56in one which was on sale today. Went by hf and looked and realized the 44in would be a better choice with my space, but it wasnt on sale any more. Ended up getting a 4 drawer mechanic rolling cart for 99 bucks in the clearance aisle (usually 179) and got a 14in 7 drawer side bin for the future 44in chest for 120 in the clearance as well. So these will do for a short time until the 44in goes back on sale, heck it even might do well on the 26in box since I like the drawer layout on that one, we shall see I guess

I want one of those boxes just for a welding rig. Would need to make a bottle mount on one end, but the plus to it is I would have a lot of room for all my wedding supplies, and grinders, etc to go with my welder. Figure I can mount the welder itself on the bottom shelf. I just need to make space for it.

I have a welding cart that came with my Holbart welder, very handy to move it around the garage.
Tip, buy a short bottle, the tall bottles make the cart too top heavy.

I have a bottle the slides under my workbench. Have a standard welding cart. Not enough room for my spools of wire, cans of weld thru primer, and every thing else I keep with it including my PPE.

Understand, my cart I mostly keep welding clamps underneath, they are constantly falling out from lack of space.

Oh well I've been buying things with no place for storage lately and the garage is becoming a hazard area with stuff all over so getting tool boxes to clean it up.

Harbor freight is running their black friday sale again all weekend (if you have the coupon book, but the coupons can be found online). 399 for the 44in box right now.

Fitting big things into tight spaces is something I've got plenty of experience in.

Ps is $60 shipped a good deal on a torque shaft for my shifter?

Finals are over! I have 3 weeks of being free to get the car put back together and the mess of a garage cleaned.

Organizing tools today, tomorrow get bushings done and hopefully over the weekend I can get the brake lines on the rear end buttoned up and tighten all of the bolts.

Then weekend I can also hopefully start on the front

Have not seen you around much recently. I guess we now know why. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Yea I wish I had time to work on the car but unfortunately I've been slammed with pts and finals every single day. Today was my first day off.

Thank you and Merry Christmas to you as well!

Got 90% of stuff organized!

Happy wife happy life. She made me go have a family day.

I also got this little contraption. It made getting the bushing out a breeze. Honestly though you'd still be better off with buying little metal pieces that were correctly sized to go inside of the parts your trying to take apart.

Here's also a picture of the old vs new polyurethane bushing, honestly the previous owner may have been correct when he said the front suspension was rebuilt at some point. This old polyurethane bushing is practically new. These control arms need to be cut and rewelded to tighten them back up.

Cleaned bearings like I was instructed to do.

Also got new bushings pressed in, but broke one so installed an old one back in so it's all complete. Apparently you have to use greasable pivot shafts and adj strut rods with lca polygraphite bushings... which I don't have so I may try to install my rubber lca bushings, but I'm just worried about breaking something else trying to do those.

Fun part is only major thing i have left to do besides take off old parts and install new parts is get a new DS.

Oh I am also borrowing a welder from a friend to cut and weld my LCAs up tighter so there is no play in them. Wish I could use a feed welder for the manifold because I'd do that one too while I was at it.

Keep it up D.D. your becoming a pro in a very short time. We all had to start somewhere. Nobody was born with this knowledge. Eventually you will become a Sensei to someone else getting into these cars. I am enjoying reading your thread posts on the darts restoration, and will offer insight when I can. You have made great progress learning and doing.

Thanks! It definitely is fun learning about the car, not so much breaking things, but luckily for me and others coming to this site for help there are a whole lot of sensei's already here who like you offer their knowledge when they can.

It's funny my thread is 35 pages and I havent done many "big" projects on the car. Some of these restoration threads and 5 pages and they rebuilt an engine, did a bunch of body work then painted the car in what seems like 5 days haha. Engine maybe next years project, body work I'll hopefully never be blessed with learning, maybe I'll learn to paint one day though.

Picked this up from a buddy to tighten up the LCA's. I have to go to harbor freight and get a welding helmet though.

Also picture of my next vehicle after I'm done with skool

I just upgraded my harbor freight helmet to the Vulcan. Definitely an improvement and worth the extra money

To pricey for me. I will only be welding for a total of maybe 10 minutes doing the control arms then taking the welder back to my buddy as I only borrowed it. It's a mig welder so sucks it cant be used to do the manifold ear with a crack on it
