My home inspection of Speedmaster heads

-

Thanks for the great video. You need a set of head stands. You would love them. Dang look at the pushrod pinch on those Magnum heads I have compared to the Speedmasters.

Nice...
Was that one valve on that one head the only one that seemed a little high?
Did you do anything about it or just adjust the rocker accordingly when the time comes?..
yes, on that head. I'll need another look as time permits. Had something going on this evening, but I would guess it's the setting of the seat.

Agree. I would imagine the valves are all pretty close to the same length. The valves are just steel and not stainless I assume?

yes, and I can see people buying the bare heads for about 420.00 and loading them up with nice hardware. Problem is if you have to pay a machinist to perform some of the work, then the money gets lop-sided in favor for "loaded heads" to a DIY guy like myself.

Yep they're nice heads. I've had mine a couple years.

Awesome job as usual! What's your opinion of the exhaust side?
exhaust side is good. Mildly ported 308 heads are just as good. But in my opinion, the 308 head might be the best small block head from the factory on the exhaust side. So I just gave SM a compliment.

Nice they don't need a back cut. There seems a lot of good going on here for the price.

What's really crazy is, you used to be able to buy direct fit 2.05's for $30 !!
They fit right into that head too. The seat will go out to that no problem.

Any intentions of testing the spring pressures, hardness of the retainers or locks or?

I don't have a way to accurately test the springs. Retainers/locks are suppose to be chromoly.

Seems like the springs were 145# seat and 350+ at .500 and plenty of room to go .650 lift. I do.
I've put several 6500 rpm hits on them and everything is still in one piece.

Can't beat first-hand testimony. thanks

Just checked both of my heads and valve stems and rocker shaft stirrups are as flat as glass....
