How to recondition "coated" interior panels?

How do I restore interior fastback panels? They are plastic/vinyl/rubber coated over tin. Do I use rubberized paint? Textured paint? One section has rust under the "coating" which is bubbling, can I sand the plastic/vinyl/rubber top coat away to get to the rust, treat it, then paint over with something? What is the best method to restore? Thanks

Have the same issues with mine. I chose to buy the carpet kit for mine even though they were not carpeted originally.
 
They make a matte black, textured powdercoat.

I'd have them stripped and done that way. I used it on my dash.

Sorry, my panels currently look like yours, but someone on here will have some pictures of carpeted ones from their car. You can order them pre-cut.

That is a great question and I don't know the answer. I found a nice pair for my 383-s in a junkyard many, many years back. It was a great day when I found them as they were in great shape, with no speaker hole cut out in them, which is quite common. Here is a picture of my 383-s I sold a few years back, had it for 25 years. Rod

Not sure on the texture of the originals (I own a notch back) but there are a lot of things that can be done with the various bed liner coatings to get different textures. Eh, just an idea on something to look in to!

It was from a company that is no longer in business called rocky mountain dashes. Later it re-opened as PEak Dashes.

There is another source to get them from located in this thread.

The pre 68 bucket seat backs and skirts were made the same, vinyl attached to steel with contact cement. I've repaired small cuts/various scars in the vinyl on those parts but I didn't have the rust issue. The carpet is probably your best route.
