Howdy! I've been posting on the early A body forum about the 66 Valiant I inherited from my brother. I am having to learn Mopar so please bear with me. The engine block has a 53020006 casting no. and the pushrods are hollow and oil the top end. It is using an LA-style intake so I have to figure out just what the heads are. Here's a picture of what I've got. What should I look for to ID the heads? Thanks - Jim

Factory Iron. Without the part number and/or pictures of the ports it would be hard to tell. Basically you have 273/318 heads with small ports and 340/360 heads with larger ports and valves. Some 318's have 360 heads on them. Some 273's have adjustable rockers and mechanical cams.

According to this you have a late LA 360 roller cam block. So probably 360 heads, possibly 308's which are a good head.

Help Identifying this Block

Looks like someone cut that car for headers at some point and no provisions for heat. It has electronic ignition conversion but I don't see the ECU. Whats the history of this car?

In 66 you could have 178's 234's or 920's. No worries though. They all have the same sized valves, ports, and chambers.

Looks like a factory dual point distributor from here.

But the the voltage regulator is for electronic ignition, or its the same one Mopar used in their conversion kits.
An electronic voltage regulator has nothing to do with the ignition system. That blue regulator looks like a electronic replacement for the old points type regulator.

Lots of history! My brother drag raced it with 273 and 340 CID engines from 1968 thru the early 80's. He swapped it back to a stock appearing configuration leaving only the big gaps in the fender aprons. Here's what it looked like in early '70s trim

Also, see my avatar.

So how can ID the head part #? I thought there were supposed to be casting numbers on the intake runners? I see a number, possibly 622? The have rocker shaft oil passages - so I guess that means that the block is set-up for LA oiling. The pushrod holes are large.
