What is the correct oil pickup for the 187 big block pan? Thank you drive through.

I have same pan/same problem.
What pickup did you use?

That's the one I bought. Pan does not lay flat on pan rails of block. I end up with 1/4-3/8" space between.
Did you have to make any alterations to 187 pan?

Haven't used it yet.

There is a few comments on summit about it being too long so they cut 1/2 to 3/4 inch off of the threaded end. I know Chrysler listed a low deck and raised deck pick ups as different numbers. Kim

I thought Mancini had the correct pickup tubes to work in this application, but I'll have to go dig thru some papers and pix for a confirmation....

Sounds like the one from Summit should be for a 6qt. pan.

Looks like the one from Summit is for 6 qt. RB motors.... here's my limited knowledge on the subject. See attached pic, the three pickups on the right are Melling 63-S3 and Mopar P4529565. Those three pickups are identical and interchangeble in every way, as far as I can see; 3/8" tube, six quart RB applications (but not 62-65 B bodies).

The 4th pickup from the right side is an RB application, 5 quart pan. The two pickups on the left are identical, one is damaged bad, and the second one is the only of this stack that would work, with a ( 5 quart) 187 pan on a "B" engine big block, as confirmed during a build last year. Unfortunately, I don't have part numbers for the three pickups from the left side. I could make an educated guess, but it would still be a guess. The best info I could find at my fingertips would be to go on the 440 source website, and look at the original part numbers listing for the oil pans by application, because it does include the pickup numbers there. HTH, Lefty71 (wish I had a better answer for you).

Note the much deeper angle at the screen end (closer to 90) on this damaged OEM pickup for the "B" engine with "187" pan, as opposed to the sweeping angle on the pickups for "RB's" with 5 & 6 quart pans shown above it.

A while back I drilled and tapped for a 1/2 inch oil pickup. And have the 187 pan. Is there a 1/2 pickup available?

You may be able to figure something out, but as far as I know, there was never a Hemi powered car, or other factory 1/2" oil strainer used with a #187 pan, so that's uncharted waters. I could always be wrong of course. Milodon makes a 1/2" connection strainer that may work, but peeps have been bitchen that at this point, it's just a bastardized 3/8" version, so there was no point in reworking your block for no gain. The other thing is, I'm not seeing a #2532264 3/8" strainer anywhere, anymore either.... just Hilltop, and I think his information, or his picture is bogus.

My Solution
Purchased Pittsburgh 91395, NPT tap and die kit at Harbor Freight
Used 3/8x18 NPT tap and CRC 92581 cutting lube to tap the threads in the block. Took about 3 full turns overall, before I got the Melling 63-S3 low enough that 187 pan would seat on pan rails with gasket.
Lefty71 is right. Pickup with shape in picture would have been much easier.

Gosh yall, this is really much ado about nothing. The red wrench will come right out and make easy work of however it needs to be bent and do a nice job.
