The last intake on my experimental head is going to get a 50degree seat. If you have a pressure issue in the combustion chamber. And I think these SM will have, as they grow in cfm. You have to sink the valve or cut the seat to50 to make the air happy. Maybe not. We will just half to see how PBR proceeds with his plans
 
I don't know if I'm behind the curve, but did we get flow numbers after opening up the chamber around the valves and after tubing and removing the push-rod pinch?
 
Like I said...I don't pick a valve job based on lift. And I'm not the only one.

If you're so concerned with low lift flow, you should follow DV and use a 30 degree seat.

That's a sure fire power loser. But he seems to think low lift flow is the do all, be all, end all. It's not. Not even close. But hie thinks it is.

LOL...in fact, if you look at his porting book, his own writing contradicts some of the CFD work he published in the same book.
Low lift flow isnt everything just as much as high lift flow isnt everything. It's all important. Getting the most air you can in with the window of lift and time you cam for is the object. Which brings us back to not everything is max effort, hence why the higher low lift compensates for the lack of cam/rpm.
I don't think he needs a 50° seat to get the numbers he's looking for. That's all I have to say about it till you dig out your econo heads and test those seat angles out on'em and report back with stellar results...then maybe I'll go back to work on those j's and see if 290cfm decides to rear its head in the other 7cyl. One port is special sometimes...strangest thing.

LOL. Yep. One port can be golden and you can't get the rest happy. Core shift, internal materiel loss...who knows.

I'm hoping by spring I can get some time on the flow bench. I may not publically post everything I find, but I may PM the results.

Some things don't need to be public, but I'd share with members of this forum privately for sure.
 
I had my bench set up to flow the exhaust side so while it was in that mode I ported the exhaust. Intake numbers coming soon.

I did lower the shortside a little Sunday (.080) and it responded with 4-5cfm max so we are in the low 280’s at .700 with more on the table.

just curious, what anti-freeze do you all plan on running through your aluminum heads?????? Street or street/strip guys (I know, full time race cars will have something different).

Most drag strips require water. Car manufacturers use propylene glycol in their aluminum engines. A combination cast and alloy headed engine should be good with Ethylene glycol.

Thanks, i agree on the choices. I've never had anyone ask what I had for coolant. 30 yrs of going to the strip.... Always look for the overflow, though. I think they just know a street car will have a 50/50 blend.

Yes, street cars must have a overflow. a hose and a plastic pop bottle atached with a tie strap does the trick. (depending on how anal the tech guy is) LOL

Honestly, unless there is somebody new, they don't even look at my cars. In fact, tech was closed the last time I got there a little late and I just went to the tower and they said "you've been here before, you know" and took my card. In 30+ years, I've never put fluid on their track, nor delayed their race. But then, many of the old workers that knew me don't work there anymore.

No glass fuel filters either. If they're in a good mood though they will duct tape around it and let you run.
 
I've always just ran distilled water and a bottle of Redline water wetter...

What he said ^^^^^^ at the track, on the street, I take the lazy way out and purchase the 50/50 blend. It’s just easier then getting 100% antifreeze and the getting the distilled water separate.
