My home inspection of Speedmaster heads

-
Pulled the 2nd head apart today. Valves all held alcohol. Valve guides were the same as the first head meaning ok to use in my opinion. I'll remove the same burrs under the seat with the Dremel buffer. The spark plug holes are already done. About 1.5 hrs to complete this head meaning both my small block SM heads will be ready to bolt and go.
Oh my goodness without a 19 angle valve job! What is this world coming to...
Don't forget to dress up those spark plug holes.... :poke:...

and I won't deny a 3 angle, or 5 angle valve job isn't better, but if the valves seal the heads will perform. Room for improvement? You bet! But walk around both my Dusters..... think there is room for improvement on the 2.76's/2.94's ? Stock converters?? low compression?? Small cams??? LOL.....

Yeah that was detonation waiting to happen lol...
I'll tell you why I personally did it. I didn't want a sliver of a thread or jagged edge to break off in the cylinder. I don't think I run enough compression/quench and all to get too excited about detonation.

something tells me if a piece that small was to actually break off it would get shot out the tailpipe LOL..

Are you going to put anti-seize on your spark plugs?...
probably will all the bolts. But you know what? I've had a ton of newer cars with aluminum heads on 4 and 6 cylinders and never used anit-seize on the plugs and never had a problem. But I will on these.....

I don't plan on a hundred thousand miles in between spark plug changes LOL.. I pull them out and look at them too often to worry about them seizing...

I still don't know what I'm putting these on..... LOL. 318 and put the dual quads on top? Sounds like fun :D

Well that was the final demise of my 318! LOL.. that's when I decided to stop being a kid and putting all kinds of add ons onto a stock motor...
Kind of that not running down and banging one of those sheep butt walking down and banging them all...
build a good stout bottom end and then you can play with your heads and carburetors and headers and all your add-ons... So far so good, but where there's a will there's a way... So nothing's guaranteed.....

nothing's guaranteed.... even if I built a new stroker. Not worried in the least should I blow a factory assembled '76 short block 318 that was never rebuilt. Think I could get 50 bucks for it on CL, this site, or any other market place??? My record still currently stands: Approx 50 small block mopars alone over 30 years and never lost a one.

well I bought my car for the body and paid for the body and the motor came along with it so I went ahead and actually blew up my first Mopar motor.. I'll say it again where there's a will there's a way...
when you get those dual quads on there and all that try holding 2nd gear in your automatic all the way to the end of the quarter mile and don't let off the gas pedal... I was positive I really didn't need to shift into fourth... And I didn't...

What you talk'n about, Maynard? I cross the line now in 2nd gear.....

But then again that 318 of yours you're probably only up to about 60 miles an hour LOL...

I think 94.9 mph is it's best LOL... and that's better than any factory '73 340 with 3.21's. That is what this low dollar 318 was built to do, run with a factory '73 340 Duster on a less than 500 dollar budget (spent 498 :D)

I thought this year you were supposed to be chasing your son ...

You're having trouble getting your eyes open to reassemble the last set of heads you need to get moving apparently...

I lapped one intake and one exhaust valve - just a brief hit. I wanted to see what kind of "lapping ring" that would appear. I can tell you the ring is perfect on seat and valve. Impressive.
Pictures may not show well.....
