Has anyone installed the 1 1/8" PST sway bar successfully? Im working on a 73 swinger with original tabbed LCA. It fits good on the LCA side but the front of the bar where it attaches to the K frame is roughly about 1/2" too far forward.

Negative, its perfectly straight. Entire front end is rebuilt, everything sitting where it should.

Well, if everything is sitting where it should then it would fit. So there’s that.

Do you have the car at ride height or up on jacks? Typically for sway bar installs you want the car at ride height for initial install. It’s a 73 so it fit through the K frame?

Have you measured then against the old ones? I mean in length.

Is it possible it was mislabeled? I’d send a picture of yours and theirs to P-S-T so they can figure what happened.

The car is sitting on all 4 but there are 6 inch blocks under the fronts to give me some room to get under it. I have some stock A body sway bars out in storage, I will have to get it out and compare them.
Yes its a 73 so the bar passes through the K.
Pictures coming up....

First pic shows the connection at the LCA. Looks good there, no problems.
Second and third show where the bar site in relation to the K frame bracket. Its too far forward.
I initially bolted it up to the K frame first but the LCA ends were hitting the control arms.

as long as it fits thru k-frame and doesn't conflict, why not just redrill/slot holes in spanner straps, or better yet make your own.

I might guess that it could be a '70 B-body bar. I'm not sure about the width on those, though. Time to compare it to your originals.

I kinda doubt it. If it fits through the K frame and lines up with the end links it's probably just a bracket issue. There really isn't a lot of extra room in the K pass through, I know my Hellwig bar barely fits through by itself. Speaking of which, on my car the bracket that holds the bushing is right up against the nut for the mounting bracket, it's as far forward as it goes so it's probably only about a 1/4" or less different than what the OP shows for his. Just enough to fit.

I would suspect the brackets are just a little off. I'd call PST first, but I would be prepared to either drill new holes, or maybe slot the mounting holes a little so you get the space to mount things up.

My suggestion is if the bar is otherwise clearing the K-frame, use the forward bolt location of the bracket off the K-frame to mount the bushing clamp forward end (longer bolt of course, (use grade 8s)), drill a new hole for the rear of the bushing clamp to bolt on to. Use wide thick washers at the bolts in order to better support the bushing clamps. Also, wrap a layer of Teflon tape around the bar where the bushing supports it. It will help retard squeaks and slow down the urethane bushing wear where it works with the sway bar. Another point is to simply keep in mind that you are working with a P-S-T product undoubtedly made by addco and minor adjustment must be made. If you want no hassle installs, then you must use factory or something along the lines of hotchkis type parts. My 2 cents worth.

If you can load the end link on top of the lower arms clip, that would draw the bar rearward. I know the pre 73 design is loaded on top of the clip with some much longer end link kits.
Loosely bolt it up a forward mounts first with bar ends positioned above the clips, then put end links together.

In that second picture up there ^^^^ all you need to do is turn that whole bushing with the bracket toward the rear, line the bolts up, push it on pout the nuts on and tighten her down. That bar would be on my car.

That would force the bar back and there will be interference issues with the bar hitting the LCA. Looks like im going to use the front bolt that goes into the K frame and drill some new holes for the rear of the bushing mount. Its a shame because I was told this was a bolt on deal.

Are you sure it will go back that far? I would try it and see.

Yes, I initially connected the bar at the front first and it was immediately obvious there was a problem. Way too close to the LCA's.

This problem has been solved by using the front brace mtg bolt to attach the sway bar bushing bracket. I drilled a new hole for the rear hole. Fits good like this but damn, why cant these aftermarket parts companys get their **** together and make something that actually fits.
Another gripe is the grade 2 hardware that came with the kit. Absolute crap.

the poor quality fasteners thing is common, and evidently hasn't changed in like 50 yrs. I remember buying an Addco bar for my 64 Dart that long ago, and being appalled at the poor quality of the attaching parts.
I can't say yours is this problem, but Mopar guys have gotten used to being the red-headed stepchild in the aftermarket dept. Most aftermarket parts like that are really designed for GM, or Ford. If they kinda fit Mopar, that's just a happy coincidence.

Simple. Because we don't drive Chevys. Nothing fits or works good for Mopar in the aftermarket across the board.

you need to learn the MOPAR mantra: Yes i drive a MOPAR, i already know it's going to cost twice as much, not fit right, and be back ordered"

You might check and make sure that is the right bar. When I bought my 72 Satellite someone had put a 73-up A-body bar on it. I noticed that the links were cocked.
So maybe it could be a 70-72 B/E bar?????
