I am just getting ready to start building a 383 for my 69 Dart. I have read tons of articles about a 383 in an A Body but wonder if my build will meet my expectations. I want to run mid-low 12s and this is what I have in mind.
383 .030 9.5:1
Stock OOTB Edelbrock Heads
Edelbrock manifold
Comp XE274
750CFM Holley
Schumacher Headers
727 with Transgo Shift Kit
3800RPM Turbo Action Converter
3.91 gears

Does anyone have a similar hydraulic cammed combo with real world average joe dyno or quarter mile results?

P.S. I am a peasant so no I will not be able to afford a stroker crankshaft for this build lol.

shaving weight will help ya a bunch too.
 
At your elevation, practically in the water, low12s should be easy. At 3400#Wet, you only need about 350hp.And the 388 combo you detailed should get you there.
Getting the 60fts down, is not so easy and you could see .4 to .7 second lost on the launch, which could take another 20 to 40hp to compensate for, depending on just how slow the 60ft actually is. But even then, worst case is ~390 hp.
.............. but IMO,that 9.5Scr is gonna handicap you.My best advice is to jack the pressure up waaay higher than you think it needs. At just 9.5Scr, with alloy heads , IMO, yur leaving a lot of power untapped. With more cylinder pressure, you shouldn't need the 3800, which might, if it matters, make a sweeter streeter.

Just for comparison;
My 3.58 stroke Eddy-headed 360 has happily burned E87 at up to 185psi, the highest I tried. This combo (see Sig,below) went 93 in the Eighth, which the Wallace Calculator translates to 115 in the quarter, which translates to from 12.0 to 12.6 depending on the 60ft, mine was 2.4x, on rollerskates, and lousy starter box.
 
383’s with good heads can make power pretty high in the power band.

You’re not going to allow that to happen with a hyd cam(certainly not that hyd cam).

What you’ve outlined is a pretty good package overall....... I’m just saying you’re going to run into the wall at the point where the lifters give up....... and that could easily be at a point in the power band that’s lower than where the rest of the combo could peak.

I agree with the idea of trying to get the CR up.

Follow AJ/FORMS advise . He's right there . Remember the 350 h.p.number that he recommended is at the tire . Maybe another 20 h.p. just to be safe

I run a 383 in my duster. 71 block with Keith Black pistons, stock 906 iron heads, torker intake 750 Holley dp, .507/.510 hydraulic cam with a 3800 stall and 4.56 gears has gone 12.33@107 for reference
 
I budget-built a '77 cast crank 400 from a Newport using the complete engine with a deglazed bores ring/ polished crank bearing job, good valve job and some select milling. I milled the 452 heads .060" on the deck and .072" on the intake face (so any unmilled intake would fit perfectly) to up the compression substantially. I also used the .018" shim head gaskets, and the pistons were whatever abysmal negative deck they came with. Used drop-in Crane single valve springs (roughly equivalent to Comp 911 springs, I had them laying around) and a Comp Cams "Dual Energy" 275 cam (still available, listed in "specialty cams" section of the catalog) with 219/235*@.050" duration and .462/.482" lift, 110LSA. With a DP4B intake, 750 AFB carb and HP manifolds with full 2.5" exhaust and Hooker short turbo mufflers it was a beast (at least per dollar)!! I had it in a Challenger with 3.23 gears and a factory 11" hi-stall converter (2400rpm?), and people swore it was a 451. Sounded lopey but pulled from pretty much idle to 6500rpm effortlessly. I love that combo!!!
 
I had a 68' Satellite street car 71' cast crank 383 .030 over flat top 9.0-1 pistons 906 UNPORTED iron heads Crane HMV 278 cam .467 int. .494 exh if I remember correctly 10" 2800 stall converter Edelbrock dual plane 650 Holley dual point Accel distributor 4:56 ring and pinion Hooker headers
Best pass was 12.68 at 108 mph fun car
I sure miss that old air craft carrier.:(

383 should easily get you into the 12s:thumbsup:
 
Pump gas 383, ported big valve 452’s, rpm intake, hp750 carb, 1-7/8” headers.......solid cam:
