Looking to buy later front and rear windshield gaskets for a 67 Notchback Barracuda. At the same time switch to the later trim.

There seems to be a wide range in prices between Pro Kits and a couple other brands on eBay and Steele rubber. Anybody have a preference?

Also I want reinstall the back window, what gets the factory black sealant off the glass?

@RPM440+6 can help you. He's a member hear and a good guy. He's helped me a lot. I tagged him so hopefully, he'll chime in.

Knowledgable/helpful guy.
Make sure whichever mfg you use, that their gasket is acceptable for oem SS. Following as I would like to do the same.
If you have 67 gaskets, they are worth $$ so you can recoup some $$ to offset costs.

He sure is. He can tell you the good from the bad and which company sells what. In my case (unfortunately) only one company (Steele Rubber) offers the rear gasket for my 64 Valiant........at 240 bucks. LOL Dangit all.

Check Layson's. They have both front and rear windshield gaskets for your coupe.

I just received a rear gasket for my 71' hardtop and it was in a Precision labeled bag. The quality is excellent. I've yet to get it installed so I cannot comment on the fit, but I don't anticipate any problems.

Doesn't Precision make them and everybody else sells the Precision seals? I remember a few years back when there was a shortage of certain seals and the story from every supplier I called was that they were on backorder from Precision.

When purchasing weatherstripping from whoever, I would suggest that anyone should ask the vendor specifically who is the manufacture of the part. If they are not able to tell you, then search out another vendor. For some applications, you might find a rather inexpensive spliced together piece of various extrusions that will semi fit your application. Most of these pieces do not have the correct molded corners and the bonding together of the extrusions are questionable.

Clester's, Precision and Steele offer a better alternative. None of the three offer 100% coverage and they will typically purchase from each other to have product coverage. Clester's will be the lowest priced with Precision being in the middle unless the piece is actually a Steele piece that they are bagging for product coverage. Steele will be the most expensive. Both Clester's and Steele manufactures in North Carolina and Precision will manufacture outside of the US.

The Precision parent business is an OEM vendor to the automotive industry and I typically suggest them whenever the customer has the option. Pricing is very competitive and the quality control is very good resulting in generally a better fitting and sealing piece.

You can check around with your preferred vendors to get an ideal on the pricing. I feel that the one that Precision offers for the notchback application is actually a Steele piece that they are offering to have product coverage.

For the genuine style '67 gaskets, the only thing available is the Precision windshield and the fastback rear window gasket. Precision is the only vendor for the correct mylar insert and I personally feel that it is just a matter of time that this piece will be dropped. Most customers will update to the 68 style and thus basically no demand for the correct style pieces due to the rather expensive pricing. Good luck on the pursuit.

Thank You for the reply, extremely helpfull!!

That should be bookmarked and saved. All to often I think people fall to eBay and potentially suffer the consequences.

Long ago I purchased a windshield gasket/seal for my 1975 dart sport. It is Soft Seal brand. Looks nice but have not installed yet. Is this a good choice? Don't hear much about this particular brand. Used to see it advertised alot in my older mopar mags.

@QuickDart360 , the Soft Seal branding is a bit misleading in the weatherstripping arena. There is the "SoffSeal" brand which falls under the ownership of the RPUI corporation. This is the same brand that owns PUI Interiors, Trim Parts, Right Stuff, etc. Metro rubber brands their product as "Super Soft". People will typically confuse the two. Metro is the current leader in market share for door seals and such. I actually spoke with them last week and they are in the process of retooling many of the roof rail seals to improve the sealing qualities. They hope to have new tooling completed by April for the 67 to 72 A-Body applications.

Depending upon the time frame in which the product was purchased, it can impact the manufacture. Both manufacture some of their own product, mainly door seals, roof rail, body plugs and bumpers. I am not certain on the front and rear glass seals, but I think that they may be purchasing from Precision now to have product coverage.

I purchased SteeleRubber gaskets for the front & rear of my '71 Dart GT. A new windshield was installed while the original back glass was reused. My glass installer was impressed with both gaskets and had no issues with the installs.

I installed a Precision on the front

The Precision I got in a trade of parts from a member here. It fits better than the Steele on the rear. The Steele cost me @240 and came with the black rubber lock strip. The Precision cost @250 and so does its chrome lock strip. So $500. Your talking @$1000 for some rubber. Just my 2cents.

You need to check that bottom part of that windshield gasket real good, Al. The windshield does not appear to be in the slot in the gasket good there. I have had them fool me before and gone back with a popcicle stick or similar and worked it in. It sure looks like it's curled under there to me.

I would be a bit suspicious of a $47 Steele gasket. I wonder if it might have some undisclosed issues. Just sounds too good to be true, but you never know.

I am still suspicious. I have not installed it yet, but it fits the windshield very......and I mean very good.

And to be clear, I do not like having to always buy the cheapest stuff out there. it sucks. Most of the time that's what I have to do.

My Steele fit the rear glass fine, but was to small for the body.

I notice in your pictures, you do not have the lock strip in yet. You DO know it takes lock strip to expand and lock the gasket in place, right? Stupid question I know, but just checking.

Yes , I know . The lock strip I got with doesn't fit the seal. This front seal and lock strip went through 3-4 members hands before It ended up in mine. It just kept getting sold and passed along knowing it was wrong.
