DC tac hook up..?..

-
Now do I want to take out my MSD and put that in?. Or do I want to take my tachometer apart and put a real tachometer in it..

No, I wasn't saying to put one in. you said you didn't know what one looked like, so I found you a pic.

I didn't think you were telling me to put one in. I took it just as you we're showing me what it looked like and thank you..

Hey, it was 4 in the morning and I was caffeine deficient! And, you are welcome sir.
Cool tach by the way.

But it won't be once you gut it.
It's not a paperwieght to guys who like tach drive distributors.
or get yourself a tach drive distributor.
The DC/MP ones with the magnetic pickup are good for the 1/4 mile if they still have their heavy spring.

You can try these guys, they're up here a couple hours from me. They upgrade factory tach boards from electric to electronic.
Lots of mopar stuff

I gave the guy a call first thing this morning and super nice guy to talk to but he didn't have any idea of how to help..
Thank you for giving it a try though..

It was worth a shot. Was there a company Redline Gauges, that did similar work?
Start a want ad?

I thought that it was saying available with conventional wiring as well?..

Looks to me like the 4286644 does conventional wiring. 4286609 needs the sender.

Longshot......
These folks have been around forever selling DC & MP parts. May or may not be worth a call.

Well that's some awesome info! Thank you! I'll give them a call....

Well I just called autometer and basically they said I had a paperweight..
Or so they didn't want to touch it because it was an original Chrysler item and altering it sounds like they could get in trouble... He said something about a generator distributor?... He also said it had a very primitive circuit board inside. I asked about altering the circuit board but they said they couldn't touch it and if I wanted to do something like that I was on my own.. maybe when I get time in the next couple weeks I'll dissect it and figure out what I can do.. maybe put the guts of a normal tachometer inside of it...

Just my 10 cents and it and another $1 -$6.00 will get ya a cup of Coffee somewhere.
That's a really cool Tach that you have right there and I can't imagine that there's many of them left around. As someone that has been collecting many things for many years what I can tell you is that (Originality, Parts, Screws, Finish, Patina, Packaging, etc) is everything to collectors and chances are that whatever you try shoving in there probably isn't going to work anyway and then you'll just have a F-ed Up Can't use (no longer quite as cool) Tach that's going on the shelf anyway. I would totally advise against tearing the guts apart but If your compelled to use it than i'd try and source the correct Tach Drive Distributor.

*This has been a public service announcement to all that are on the cusp of tearing up cool old unique stuff*

Here are pictures of my tach drive electronic distributor, part number P4120701...I got mine here on FABO back in 2011 from another member.... still sits on my shelf dammit lol

I have two new old stock clear distributor caps that I wanted to use on this but they won’t work, I thought that would always be cool on my car. I have a few tach drive Moroso tachometers and I always wanted to put this in my car... Old Skool is Kewl

Maby to ease your mind, I have no intention of "tearing anything up".
"IF" I was to very carefully open it up I would see what I can do without doing permanent damage to the original parts...
Taking the three nuts off the back to have a look-see inside I think wouldn't hurt much...

As I understand it that gear Drive has to run some kind of generator that the tachometer hooks to?..

That's what the catalogue says. - yes.
The question I have is whether the difference in the two part numbers is simply on has the generator, the other doesn't.
The 'generator' is simply making some sort of electrical pulse.
It's probably a cleaner signal (square wave) but what other differences it might have IDK.
Prob no point in opening it until you have someone who knows enough about the electronics to figure that end out.

By a tach drive dist.(MSD won't even now your sending the same signal, but from a different dist.)
By the generator so the tach and dist get along and POOOF!!!! You have your favorite tach working in your car.

Or get the glass cleaner, and wax out, and put that shiny piece back in you glass case and be happy.

Besides if you get it to work and you ever decide to sell that "Rare DC Paraphernalia"..........It will be worth a lot more, with proof that it still functions!!!!!!

Distributor is easy to find. (not many at bargain prices though)
But first need to figure out which this is.
You search ebay etc yet ?
Otherwise, will have to be patient 'til you find the right person or at least some photos of each type.

YR has already said that you could find one at the swap meet your going to.
Do you think they are going to get any cheaper if you wait?....................
Your not willing to sell what you got. So, you will have to buck up, and pay what it take, to make your dream come true.
Or have half of the puzzle gleaning in your display.

Remember one man's junk in another man's pride and joy. You just need to find it, in another man's junk........

es I do want to open it up..
Well, get out the old nut driver a let us see what's in there! A guy found 43K in a couch purchased from a second hand store (in one of the cushions) the other day. Ya' never know!:D

First off you're the only one on the Forum that buy stuff at the advice of yellow rose LOL... second I've been to that swap meet and it's probably one of the smallest ones that there is in some little building over in Washington... Maybe two or three booths with Mopar stuff...lol... I may have a better chance at the beginning of April at the big swap meet where there's 10000 booths.. but then I'm looking for the literal needle in a haystack LOL... It's not a matter of the money unless it's just ridiculous... I'm not paying $800 for a distributor...
