Still working the electrical and rear window issues... anybody know if the 62 Valiant had tempered glass? The body shop "adjusted" the post position in the restoration and my window is too big now...I want to know if I can have the side cut 1/2"?

Nope.

If they made a mistake, they need to fix the body.

Ha! Like that's going to happen!! You have no idea how much work went into this side of the car. Frankly, I am amazed that it's only 1/2" off... I'll just get a new window cut...but thanks for the insight...

Yes, all the windows are tempered glass except the windshield, which is laminated. No, you cannot cut tempered glass.

It will probably be cost prohibitive. I do stained glass work and have a water cooled grinder. If you could find a used one. You could give it a try. Cheapest one on amazon is about 100 bucks.

Even when grinding seems to work, later it will explode.

I got custom glass made for a flat rear window for my kitcar at local glass shop, they cut and had it tempered. It seemed very reasonable in cost.

I used Glass Contractors in La Vergne, TN.

FWIW, a single pane tempered 17" octagon 3/16" thick ran me 80 bucks recently. And the edges weren't even smoothed.

Nope. it's tempered you might get someone brave enough to try and diamond wheel (water grinding) it but 95% of the time it breaks it anyway due to weakening of the tension of the glass. small tiny chips and edge fractures that chip out a bit of glass on the edge can usually be ground but not 1/2"

So what's different about auto tempered glass?I had a guy come out years ago and measure my front door glass after I kicked a rock up with the mower and shattered it. He brought a sheet of tempered glass out CUT IT TO FIT right in front of us and installed it. Said "TEMPERED" right on it. He used a glass cutter, not a grinder.
