massive reconfiguration time again.

-
My wideband O2 sensor came last night so when I get a chance over the weekend I'll calibrate that and of course install it..
Also I have to get some more quarter inch all thread as these carburetors have a much deeper connecting point for the air filter rod...
Of course then I'll run over everything I've done to double-check.. it looks like good weather next week so I should have everything ready for a try...
The biggest thing for me is how it will transition to the secondaries and of course air fuel ratio...

Maybe ask your wife (really politely for us ) to go for a ride and video that bad boys maiden voyage with the new setup?? Maybe even throw in a nice supper....:poke:

well I won't know today that's for sure the rain came and it's going to be a few days before I can fill these up with gas but there's so many other fitment issues that I'm still taken care of...

How do you calibrate your O2 sensor?

How do you calibrate your O2 sensor?
The instructions say just to basically turn the car on or turn it on and let it do whatever it does for about 30 seconds to about a minute and then plug it in and turn it on again and let it zero out in the open air. That's about it. You can unplug it and screw it in and plug it back in with it off after that and it stays calibrated..

That ain't happenin... I'm sure I've already told the story of what happened the last time she was in the car LOL... Only time I can ever remember her cursing at me LOL..

I must have missed that story...GoPro?? I think I recall you saying to someone " video's or it didn't happen ". Honestly, just wanna hear a quick snap of those duels opening up...its been a long winter....

That's what I like now I be able to see the carburetors and see the linkage moving with my foot!!

Well I tossed the cover off the car today to start getting some work done and POW!!!.. LOL that sexy beast was staring me right in the face... I had to cut a couple longer pieces of all thread as yet another difference in these carbs. It seems as the air filter Rod grabs at a much lower spot then the Edelbrock, you need a longer air filter rod.. I would say about 2in longer as even the one that I used on my 1 inch air filter spacer without the spacer was still an inch short...
Also I had to find a place to put the little pentastar that formally was used on my throttle cable hold down which is now upside down and you wouldn't be able to see it anyways and I don't want it to fall off..

I did get the O2 sensor calibrated and in..
So now just some good weather and I can start seeing if these carburetors need any tuning or calibration...
And onto the next project..

Also I'm glad I didn't go with the composite black.. with the tunnel ram, 2 inch risers, and soon-to-be half inch nitrous plates they are far from getting soaked by engine heat and more likely to get heated from the sun LOL and black wouldn't help that...

well I got home from snowmobiling today and it was still pretty sunny and not too late so I had everything all hooked up and gave it a shot.. first of all I didn't have any fuel leaks from the fuel rails or anything so that felt good. I was having some trouble getting the throttle to retract all the way every time I had to give it the old blimp to make it idle down... I wired the rear choke wide open and verified the front one was staying open as well so it wasn't that...
it seemed to high idle right away and I just couldn't get it to idle down enough...
It smelled extremely rich and the O2 sensor wasn't doing anything much over 10.. I let it warm up and took it for a ride...
Again it had good throttle response from down low But as I crept into the secondaries it fell on its face a couple of few times. The last time it didn't seem too so much but still things weren't right..
I got the feeling right away because of the way they run the primary circuit like my Edelbrock that the metering Springs were too heavy.. keeping the metering rods out of the primary Jets and not choking off the fuel at idle..
I called the Holley tech line just to see what they said before I started making a judgments and throwing money at it.. again not much just a kid who didn't know much about anything but reading the manual. But his best advice was to get the idol cleaned up first and everything should go good from there. So I do remember those step Springs had some major effects before. I'm having to split the little bit of vacuum that I do have between the two carburetors.. okay here's where my cheap *** starts trying to do stuff wrong.. I wanted to pop the Springs out and see what they were like what they look like how heavy they were and so forth. I looked at her Springs up and I looked at Edelbrock Springs up and things were looking pretty familiar, as a matter of fact very familiar... Bothcarburetors share the first three steps and colors and everything but the fourth step is a 6 I think on the Edelbrock in a 7 or something on the street demon and then they both go to an eight and one says silver and one says clear which basically is the same.. so I pulled the street demon Springs out and they were green which was pretty damn heavy for my application.. I pulled out all my Edelbrock Springs which I have two sets of and started comparing them to these Green Springs width wise and strength.. of course the street demon green is an odd one compared to any of the other ones but I needed to get shocked or Springs to hold those rods down in the Jets at idle.. I just said f it and grab the number for yellows which are now clear because they're washed off from gas but the ones that were in the Edelbrock that I have. That's going to be my first try tomorrow.

The greenspring Factory is on the right and the yellow spring from Edelbrock is on the left. It's lower just to begin with let alone I believe a bit softer..
I want to order both sets of Springs at the store and then compare them and the reason also is the Edelbrock Springs are about $9 a set and the street demons are like $26 a set and I need to buy two and if they're the same I'd rather spend no money because I already have two sets of Edelbrock instead of $52..
I also got to look up the jet and metering Rod sizes as I want to go down one size as that's where I was at with my Edelbrocks as well one size leaner than Factory..

So when I looked up the street demon step up Springs on Summit someone had made a comment on the question part that these are the same as the Edelbrock Springs??

I would start a thread in the carburetor section or something on all of this, but who in the heck besides me is running dual Street demons...

With my nitrous plate and accommodating Parts order I did order the next set down of jets for primary and secondary...
The primary Jets were 78 in the secondaries were 80s.. so I ordered 76 primaries and 78 secondaries.. I couldn't use the front in the back because they're different on the street demons... the street demons have Holley secondary but their own standalone primary Jets and primary metering rods. When I pulled them out they were much shorter than Edelbrock and didn't have a retainer clip either..

I did take the yellow spring out of my Edelbrock and Carter performance and put them in the street demons so that will be the first thing I start with tomorrow. Also I noticed the factory setting is somewhere like two turns out on the idle mixture and that's about where it is on the Edelbrock shocks as well. I had both line set out near just one turn out because I was running to carbs possibly, but I have some work to do there as well...

I would bet they used existing parts when they developed the demon carb.

Heck i would just throw the parts you were using in the new carbs and see what happens.

Well that's exactly what I'm going to try tomorrow. I already have the same step up Springs I took them out of the old carbs and throw them in.. then I noticed on my records I have only about three quarters to one turn out on the idle adjustment screws which Factory is about two turns out. I'm going to screw them in and take note of where the factory setting is, but start screwing them in. Let's see if things lean out a little bit. also on the Edelbrocks I went one step leaner on both the primary and secondary Jets and have those ordered and should be here in a couple days...

I think for guys like us the car is just a toy.
While i enjoy driving my car (for about 15 minutes) i also really enjoy just playing with it.

(Wow that is a slow pitch, feel free to knock that statement out of the park..)

The more i watch your car the more i want to "de raceify" my car. It miserable to drive....

A Freudian slip for sure! LOL..:poke:..
well I like the fast out-of-control scares everybody who goes for a ride kind of feeling I do like a little bit of comfort as well I guess I'm just getting old..
I like the 354 gears so much better and I've only lost I have second at the track at the most but putting in the full interior as well and even a more tolerable cam. Really nothing you notice on the street as far as power and speed... And with a little shot I'm nitrous I may just pick that right back up anyways when I feel like it...
