Awesome and glad you guys went... !!!!
Had a blast! Thanks for your tips, too. Tech was ummmmm, lets say, quick.
Wondering how much time I could have cut by launching hard, revving it 5k + and holding second gear through the traps, cause 2.76 gears. Letting it shift to 3rd really killed it. Next time hopefully I can play more.

^^^You'd cut your times down a lot doing the things you listed ^^^

Beat that 13.4 !! You can always slow the car to 14.00 for your class :)

Might as well count this beast in as well... call it "Kidswillrun" :)

Kidswillrun on the scale
dscn2736-jpg.jpg

  • weight 3760 - plus .5
  • gear 2.71 - TDC
  • Tires 31" for now - plus .2
  • Truck - plus .3
  • 727 - plus .3
  • Motor dead stock 318 2bbl - TDC
  • Truck needs to run 17.2 in current state.

The overbore penalty is killing me or I would be close. Do you really think a .030 overbore is worth 30 to 40 hp? More like 10 max.

I'd say if somebody bores the TDC (318 2bbl) out .030, they probably put in better compression pistons. So if the TDC engine went from, per say, 8.3 to 1 up to a true 10 to 1 compression, plus picked up 5 cubic inches, then yes, the 4 tenths you deduct is about right. I'd expect if you did that to a 318 2bbl, then add a 4bbl, you'd run 15.1 - 8 tenths down from the 15.9

Looks like a 340 is not a good fit for this race. Your being penalized for already having compression. When I bored my 340 .030 and added stock replacement 2316s I gained nothing in the 1/4 maybe a couple of hundredths at the most. OK. I'm done bitching. We'll see how close I can get.

Hmmm. Looks like a stock bore 11.5 al headed 340 would be a winner.
I think the penalties are just to keep most on a semi-even playing field so everyone can compete. I mean, I could have a .474 lift cam in my Duster, but instead I have a .427 lift cam and get the same penalty. I ran this race 2 years ago with 2.45 gears, but could have had 2.94's with no penalty. But, the top cars have always been within a tenth or two either way, some exceeding and some almost running the number. Last year I was 2nd and exceeded my number by the same as 1st place, but the tie went to the faster car

It's all good. You cant make a set of rules that fits everyone's build. It will be a lot of fun. Just felt a little whiney today.

The faster a car runs the harder it becomes to overcome a penalty. I agree with you on the overbore, 5 cu in does not overcome the penalty especially when you are talking pump gas motor. I look at this as a real world guide for other members to see what certain street car combos really run.

Agree, sharing combos and seeing what others are running in street form is a great tool. Ironically, one of the fastest cars in the race has won it the last 2 years.

Well, if in the future (maybe next year) yall decide to let the other pump gas compete (e85), I would love to "play"....then again, my car is substantially faster than my index of 10.9...so....yeah.

Going to the track tomorrow for more tnt. Hopefully get a good baseline and get close to my index. Then swap a part and see what it does. What would ya'll swap first, headers or 3.73 gears?
