We can always hack with a Sawzall.... no need to till the writings on the wall... :D
Don't they make a chainsaw with a metal cutting blade on it. LOL
I'd start with cutting the frame behind the cab. lol
I could get the truck down to 3500 # and it still would look good and drive straight.
I wonder how much I could get for the box and tailgate.

We've already identified a lot of weight we'll be removing, but were not going to start on it till we can weigh it first.

I think you're going to have to get out of your comfort zone to get this truck in the tens..

I don't know what's comfortable in a fast truck. I've not built trucks to go fast. Fastest truck I've ever owned went 14.50 with a stuck brake caliper (barely made it home) . The 14.50 truck was a D150 that I dropped in a 400 2bbl. I literally spent less than 200.00 on finding the 400, 727, and used rusty headers. I did nothing to the engine/tranny except I put a 625 carter on it that was giving to me for free and a cheap 4bbl intake. Truck had 3.21 gears.

Pretty much my point exactly... we all know you're very comfortable slapping together a bunch of cheap parts... and also very comfortable taking what should go 16 to 17 seconds down into the 13's..
BUT... We still haven't seen one of your lighter cars go from 13.3 to 11.8... But alone a heavier vehicle go from 11.8 to 10.9...
While there's no question in my mind that I think you can do it, I just don't think it's going to happen cheap or comfortably..

UTG (whitepunkonnitro) said and I quote "if you throw it up in the air and it comes back down, it's too heavy" :D :D

I cut the rear fender after this 65 GTO today... I'm sure you can cut up a 1980 Dodge truck without too much backlash...

But you guys are "replacing" fenders. What I cut out isn't getting replaced! :D Like I said, we'll lighten it up "phase 1" and see where we get. If we need, we can pull out the blades and lighten it up "phase II"... LOL. We think we've got our fingers (or good leads) on some cool parts, but until they are in our possession, no need to post them....

The 413 thread has left the 413 and become the 10's on 5k? thread. LOL. It's all cool, and in the end all the same, I guess. Plan is not to use the 413 for all the various reasons listed in the 413 thread. :)

I still say call 440 source an order up there stroker kit for $2,400 and then add the price of your heads and you'll be close maybe go over a little bit but we know that's going to happen anyways...

you mean stroke the 440? IF I stroke a big block, it will hands-down be a 400. Starting with a bigger bore plus it's not a raised block meaning more room under the hood and ...... AND..... it will plop right down into my '76 Duster! I already have the headers and mounts for this swap :D Don't think I'm not thinking "down the road"... LOL

If I did a big block I would stroke a 440 hands down no question...

Just curious, what C.I. would you look for, and why not the 400?
For me, the "B" engines are about 50 lbs lighter, offer more room for headers, and you can yawn and get a 499 C.I. stroker kit for about 2200 bucks for the 400. Besides, the 400 has a starting bigger bore than a 440

When I go big block I'll buy the biggest kit for the 543 and do it external oiling mod... And by that time I should be able to understand nitrous very well and give it a good 400 shot or maybe even a couple stages by then.. Yee haa..

And of course I wouldn't be worried about room under the hood I would definitely cut the inner fender Wells out and wanted sticking up through the hood anyways with dual quads on it!...

And if you did that you'd split a stock block in half in no time, even if you half filled it, had alum caps and a girdle.:(

What about a custom block?..
"543 stroker on 400 shot with a 440 production block" says the man that accuses me of being a dreamer .....

"528 stroker on 400 shot with a 440 production block" says the man that accuses me of being a dreamer .....
543 not 528 and I haven't made any "wild claims" that that's what I'm doing....
Don't talk about it, be about it...

Buying and buy... LOL.. you don't go fast unless you do... I figured as much...
As for myself I have all small blocks stuff and don't intend and making the switch anytime soon if it all.. My car is plenty scary fast enough without nitrous LOL...
What I was trying to say if I go big block it's not going to be anything small it's going to be over the top, but again I don't see that happening anytime soon...
