Stock 273 adj. rockers no problem.
I put 340 springs on my 273 and needed to grind a little clearance. Now, the springs I got were advertised as 340 springs but they were pretty fat and the machine made them work. Something I need to change. Probably a 901 Comp would work fine although Isky recommends their dual springs for that cam. Just a mild E 4 grind.

Use a beehive spring...

The next time I have the valve cover off I need to get my calipers out and measure the OD of my springs. A spring with a smaller diameter and a little taller would be a good thing. They had to shim the heck out of mine to get the numbers right.

Good to hear. From what has been said about them, they are pretty darned good heads, especially for what we paid for them. I got lazy and thought I might sell mine and make a hundred or so. No I don't think I will. I bought 2 sets of roller rockers, sold a set to a close friend and he will use those on his stroker. Those will need some modifications to work with the springs on the heads. Depending on what cam I run in whatever I put the heads on, I might not need those springs anyway. I might go with smaller diameter ones or even beehive springs so the interference issues won't be a factor. I'm not going to start grinding on stuff until I have a plan.

We put the Speedmaster roller rockers on the heads as they came out of the box. We did move the shims around a bit to improve the alignment. None of the rockers touched the springs but some were really close. I do not know what the consequences may be but will know soon. We plan to install the driveline this weekend with a likely break-in the following week.

Wish me luck.

Hope they work out for you. They should, they are sold by the same company. LOL Here's a photo. The shafts were attached just finger tight and not on a engine with pushrods. I am hoping for the best.

I took a piece of .030 welding wire and slipped it back and forth and when I could do that I was comfortable...

I sold a set to a friend (I bought 2 sets) and he tried them on his Edelbrock heads. No go without some grinding.

I have the Hughes 1.6 to 1 roller rockers and they don't seem to have any clearance issues...

The guy I sold the rockers to bought some Harlan Sharp's with no clearance issues. He didn't get spacers with them so he used the Speedmaster spacers. He still has the rockers and shafts and can easily sell them and get his $100 back.
I'm going to be running mine with the factory stamped steel rockers ....

Bolted on my home ported sm heads this weekend. Nice improvement, not earth shattering but nice. Pulls harder at upper rpms and no loss on bottom by seat of the pants. Only the track will tell. I think my home ported Js where better than I thought. Will have to raise shift point I think. Test and tune coming this month. we'll see.

I can't remember did you have the fully loaded small block heads? Or did you load them up with your own stuff?..

I forget, what cam do you have ?

I bought the loaded heads and just changed the locks. I did change the valve job also. 70 60 45 30 Cam is howards 254-260 at .050 and .550- .555 lift. Wil run past 7000 easily valve float at 7600 but shift at 6800.

That should be a formidable test...

Might get my heads, intake and ss rockers soon, ordered 30 November 2019 !
In other news, US may colonize the planet Jupiter in the next 150 years.

Looks like Jupiter may get colonized a little sooner than I thought, just RX'd a Fedex shipping notice from SM79, then again it may just be a coupon for the next sale, heck at this point it might even pics of the crack rock they bought and smoked with my money!
Never ever ever again.

It’s been so long I forgot which heads did you order.

Avispa. Sorry to here that. I would like to thank PBR and others for their advise. Followed PBRs porting thread to the point where he stopped and a little more short side and floor work. Then valve job.Hope I did ok. we'll see.

Okay...... so your comparison is bowl blended stock heads to SM heads that also have some porting and a valve job?
Not ootb SM assembled heads.

Would you say one set of heads was ported “more” than the other?

Did you test the springs?

OK, Avispa's realty office is open for business, Jupiter is now colonized and I'm selling craterfront lots on Jupiter!!
All my stuff came in today, heads, 1.6 rockers, intake, already had the main and head studs kits and two gasket sets
