I’ve got a 340 engine I’ve had for awhile. Wondering if belongs anybody’s car. Vin looks like BH23P9B251864

Heres how it breaks down for you
B barracuda
H highline
23 sport coupe (notchback)
P 340 V8
9 model year 1969
B dodge main plant Hamtramick
251864 build sequence number

A 1969 340S notchback, that's a rare one.

Is that vin on the oil pan rail? If so, I cant say I've ever seen a complete vin there before.
Thanks for posting!

I thought that I read somewhere that they did that on some early '69 motors but then only used the last 7 or 8 of the vin.

I wonder if being a 68 date code that its stamped up where bell housing mounts( where 68 model years were). Not that I've seen a lot but all 340 vins I've seen were 8 digits long. For example Dartsuns would read 9B251864.
Hope that makes sense?

Yep Steve typically just the last 8 of the vin. Never seen a complete vin on an engine block like that.

Steve, Is your in box full?

Only 1969 had the full vin on the block, I have one out of a ragtop

Maybe it was only the early ones, I had a 440 with a full vin but that's been gone for a while so not sure on casting date

which is typical Mopar. This motor casting date is one day later than the op motor as far as I can tell.

That's what I had posted earlier that I had read somewhere that it was the earlier castings but one day later and this one that I showed is a partial.

The 1969 model year ran from August 1, 1968 through July 31, 1969.

So this is a 1969 model year engine.

Hamtramck stamped full VINs up to approximately mid-1969 model year.
