Mopar 400 block 8 sleeves

-
Your over thinking this and worried and I get it. I understand. Been there myself. NO worries.

Sleeves will come in all sorts of lengths & thickness. Your machinist will look up what is available and bore the engine out as far as practical to accept the sleeve.

Once it is done, it will hold a lot more power than a big overbore and last a long time.
I’m also thinking what rods to buy for this. Don’t want to use old 440 source ones that ran in this engine for many years already. Thinking about Molnar billet rods but it’s a matter for another topic.

I don’t know, where starting at the base of a build, the block, next step is the rotating assembly and rods are a part of that......

I understand sleeves are better metallurgy than a cast block material anyway so sleeve away! In '85 PAW used to sell 340 blocks with 8 sleeves to make them .std bores. They had their own machine shop so labor was probably ~$3.35 an hour....

LMAO! It was $3.35 IIRC, it was barley enough to insure and gas up my ‘73-318 Duster back in the day.
I was the deli kid at a super market.
Crap pay/good eats!

Want to save as much as I can so I plan to keep pistons and crank. Dont want to take chances. Pistons will get some "refurbish" with ceramic coat from Line2line.

Your conversation box is full. You can send me a message if your interested.

When I started working, minimum wage was 2.40 and hour. I was never out of pocket money, had a cool car and still made honor roll and played football.

I was way younger back then.

Have you tried Oliver Zinn, The Mopar Shop, in Germany? He might have a block and other parts.
I have not, prices there make restoring a Ferrari interesting option money wise...
I only use them when there is no other option. They have stuff but not for my wallet depth.
They have a 1978 400 block prepped + 500ci stroker kit for 6600$ bored .040" over on their website...

Ok so you do know him. He has bought quite abit of stuff from me over the years including having me airfreight him two 440 motors.

Yes I do, but having a family in USA I avoid this kind of "help" as much as I can. He simply wants too much money for me for this kind of stuff. Basically its his living and my hobby.

Weinerschnitzel hot dog joint...crap pay..crap food! :D Real money was valet parking cars...went home every night (1-2AM) with $20-30 in tip money plus 5.00/hr. Oooh! (we had to pool the tips at end of shift, but the smart guys pocketed anything more than 1-2 bucks per car) totally paid for gas and dates when I wasn't working, like never.

The deli job was good for being A constant 32-36 hours a week (with free eats.... LOL!) while the real money was home improvement jobs when the seasons weather allowed. I made an easy triple the deli money. Now that I think about it, I made more money on delivering the morning and eve newspapers.

Will drop off the block at the machine shop this week. Will try to get photos and post them here so all of you can see how it went and also during the whole procedure... Wish me luck with enough material on the block :)

Hum???? This makes me wonder. If I put 8 sleeves in a 440 block what kind of increase in bore is possible?
If I could get a block shipped here for reasonable money I'd never play with sleeving. I will buy another 400 block anyway because somehow I dont feel that confident about the whole idea. I will see what machine shop says during the whole procedure and after. I will take the engine out today.

If the sleeves are installed correctly, the block will be atleast as strong as it was before.

You are trying to pick the fly poop out of the pepper.

I hope you are right, some people disagree thats why I'm worried.

It will be perfectly fine as long as the work is done properly. Just look at an aluminum block. They all have 8 sleeve’s. Kim
