How did nitrous get such a bad rep...?

-
The way I look at nitrous is it is the least expensive of the power adders. Just like any other area of the engine, when you use the cheapest available part (rockers, lifters, etc.) you will be ridiculed for being a cheapskate. I think nitrous kinda falls in this category. Like “Build a real motor and you won’t need NO2 you cheap bastard”. Always comes back to the money. My $.02.
So I guess your a rick guy!

  • It for sure can be done without blowing up a motor...
  • Guy here dropped from 12.3's to 10 flat on a shot
  • No doubt it works. Steroids work too... but if someone sets a record hitting home runs on the juice, does it count?
  • I think if you use it, you just got to use it. You just got to know some will love it, and others will says it's cheap - spray a civic into 10's - who cares. You have to accept you won't change their minds. I fit in this category - lots of things are fake and I think it's fake power. Genie in a bottle, empty bottle no genie :D
I think everyone but you will agree that it's not fake power it's real! I mean you just said it in your first part of this post that it took somebody from 12 to 10...
Stay on subject hear what is the difference between other power adders the force air and fuel into the motor?..
Try your best to leave me out of it...
I have a thread for that if you'd like to discuss it...

I'm trying to load a short video of a nitrous car I used to help some on. Hope I can figure it out.

the bad rep came long before the 90's. It was burning pistons in the late 70's early 80's.
The days of the 100 dollar 100 horsepower NOS kit. LOL

I think it’s funny that written on the valve covers of the engine Pittsburghracer posted it says “redneck Motorsports”

View attachment 1715498703 We set a land speed record on giggle gas. And trust me @318willrun it counted.
don't think I don't know... and I have been at fastest street car shootouts. Nobody needs to educate me. I haven't said it on this thread, but Ive said it on other threads. Certain classes may require it to be competitive. I actually have a brother that ran it on his Big Block Chevelle. But nobody will change my mind on how I feel about it on typical street builds. nobody

Not trying to educate anyone. But in a your post above you related nitrous use to steroid use and wether or not a record was valid using either. Steroids are illegal in all sports, nitrous is not.

I don't think there's anybody that's trying to change your mind...
The question still remains what's the difference?...

I'll try tomorrow to load it. Rambler on nos with an amc based engine 7.03 @ 196. I guess that's real power!!!!!!!!!

Ya and I still have the jacket from about 35 years ago.

Let's see one forces air and fuel through veins and drives it out of the carburetor using the power of the crank. One uses the power of the exhaust to step up and blowing action to blow fuel and air harder into the motor. And yet another one injects fuel and compressed oxygen and nitrogen into the intake to allow a more efficient burn.. seems to me all power adders anyway you slice it..

title is "how did NOS get a bad rep" I've gave my answer. Over and out :)

You are 100% correct. And all need proper tuning. But nos does seem to break a little faster if the proper maintenance isn't done.

OH SO NOW WE'RE GOING ON WITH THE TITLE SAYS! LOL..
In that case you better get to work and watch that budget! LOL...
The first post says a lot also...

Yes buy again, good night and everyone out there please be safe. Love ya all.

Like I was saying in post number one most the haters have never tried it and then of course you're going to have the ones who say I have a friend who has a Chevy that did it or even another one I beat a Chevy that blew up doing it LOL..

I ran nitrous for years. Always on the richer side. 2 stages at the end. My motor still lives 34 years later with no rebuild. build it, for it and reap the rewards of cheap power!JMO

Were you hated on and disrespected? LOL.. and if so did you give a rat...

Same thing happens on boosted stuff I personally stuck a wastegate (Chinese awesomeness) and watched the needle go to 24lbs before I could get off of it. The engine was tuned for 12lbs. Guess how that ended.
Did it turn the pistons inside out?
