So the original owner of this 70 Duster was a self proclaimed audiophile and was concerned about someone stealing his car. The switch is mounted between the seat and side panel on the drivers side. I have a lot of wires to remove. Spent a few hours cutting tonight. He had the battery mounted in the trunk but I think I would rather put it back to original. Many will say put in a new harness but so far I haven’t found where he hacked up the old one, just LOTS of additions. Can anyone send me a link to the wiring diagram for this car, 1970 340 4 speed Duster. Did you notice the floors? Super solid car. Thanks for your input.

Wow! I thought mine was bad through the years!

Replace it all is what I subscribe to!

Small price to pay in the end run!

I’m cutting out things I’ve never seen before. Found some sort of resistor the size of a flashlight battery. I think there is a flux capacitor buried somewhere in this mess.

that’s what I don’t want to do, the original wiring looks good and have not found anywhere it is hacked.......yet. I need to find out the routing of power to the starter and ignition so I can put that back together.

Small price to pay in the end run!

It boggles the mind... Not so much the wiring, but the that somehow, somewhere, someone thought this was actually a good idea and that it was executed properly. I consider it a small miracle that car didn't burn down within two weeks of being "rewired?". It's like a train wreck, I can't look away, even though I know I'm going to view something I can't unsee.

Now I'm wondering how many trips to how many different places from wherever he got that shopping cart full of wiring supplies.

huge capacitor was probably for an amp. They still do it nowadays. Sometimes you just got to wreck it all out and start over. I come across wire messes in the phone biz magnitudes worse and its easier just to start from scratch.

I would just pull out all the non-factory stuff. As I do control wiring professionally, it can be much quicker to just start over rather than trace that rats nest. The original wire looks like it is intact, second to last pic in the first post. Braided covered group in the corner. Hopefully nothing in the rear harness was altered, little point in doing so anyway.

Almost 50 years ago I drove '62 Freightliner that was in a fire. It had three wire nuts coming from the dash...you connected two wires to a) turn on the lights b) turn on the fuel solenoid and c) touch two wires to engage the starter.

That's all there was.... Another of the company trucks had a fiberglass patch on the engine block to fix a hole where an errant connecting rod exited.

I’m not looking forward to getting under and into the dash. Half a dozen mini switches and some cool as crap fader looking thing mounted under the lip. I will post a pic of it later tonight. I am dying to start this thing, bought it a month ago and haven’t tried to start it. Don’t want to burn it/ garage/ house down.

I feel your pain lol.... Recent boat transformation I did. How people actually make this stuff work is beyond me.... If I tried that it would catch fire lol.....
