Bare Bones Budget 400 Build

-
My apologies yet again. We lost a cat today. To kinda take my mind off it, I went ahead and cleaned the crank up really good, had everything plastigaged disassembled and reassembled and torqued before I thought about the "How To" aspect. But I will do that on the rod bearings, since I don't have them yet. I have to wait on those, so I will just do a plastigage how to on them. Same process. Now I have a hole to dig after the sun goes down and it cools off some. Poor Morris. He was 16. That's a pretty good run for a cat.

That crank did cleanup nice.
Sorry about your cat, but you're right 16 years is a good run. RIP Morris

Fantastic thread Rob. Loving every video and the vinegar results are amazing. I never would have imagined.
Morris must have had a great life. So sorry.

He did. He loved the covered yard swing, so I buried him under it. We'll think of him every time we sit in it.

Sorry to hear about your cat man. Bet he had a great life living around ya'll. Thanks a lot for the video's I'm learning a lot.

Sorry rusty. I don’t care how long they live, that sucks.

Sorry about your cat!
I just saw this Rob. Now I have to bust your chops on all the advice you gave me and passed on...
No new rod bolts? Unbelievable!
:poke:

Really should align hone after rod bolt change but we all no that. I've thrown that notion out the window myself.

Here's the crank and rear seal and all in the block. I'll do the Plastigage how to soon as I get the rod bearings in.

I've agreed pretty much all along but if you think for one second those rods got knocked out of round from what I did, you'd be mistaken. We're gonna find out anyway. lol

Re-sized would have been the correct term for me to use. I suppose that should be done even if you don't change the bolts on a NON bare bones budget. What do I know... I'm just another Body Man. :realcrazy:

Oh no, I agree 100%, I simply cannot spare the extra 200 bucks. Especially when I have "so much else" to get.

HeyRob , you plan on being in the Perry area anytime soon? I’ve got your balancer in the truck.

I hadn't planned on it, but we can. Kitty likes the Honky Bucket (Cracker Barrel) so maybe we could meet there.

So a question for all of you. "Which" bellhousing will I need to make this swap work "on the off chance" I can make this fit with the manual column? Is there one that will basically "drop in" using the 400 and the A230 transmission?

Good question. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a A230 behind a BB?

Was not a 3 speed manual trans standard on the 68 or 69 or 70, Roadrunner, 383 as standard engine. Floor shift as standard no doubt there. The same years Belvedere with a standard engine maybe a 318?? I bet the 3 on tree 3 speed trans as standard issue?????
I have an old Mopar bud that bought a 70 RR 383 3 on the floor car new back then right after HS. His dad would not let him order it with a 4 speed. He replaced the 3 with a 4 speed a week after getting it but he aid his dad never knew, If dad was around he always took off in second!! lol
PS Wayne or his son at Brewwers Performance can answer any question when it comes to what will work on any odd combo!
