Thinking of finally upgrading my old steering box. Guys with 16:1. Specifically PST, how are you liking them? Any regrets?
I Run 26x6 frontrunners so maybe parking won't be as much of a pain in the ***.

My front wheels are 18x9.5. With the manual 16:1 box and a 13" steering wheel, parking does require noticeably more effort. Cruising through the twisties though, is great!
 
9.5" rims and a 13" steering wheel with 16:1? Man, you should post a photo of your biceps. My fastback has the standard ratio manual steering, stock wheel, and 215s on 5.5" rims, and it is a brute to parallel park. But I have contemplated the 16:1 box, as the steering is way too slow once you get going. On a typical mountain road 180, you can't turn the wheel fast enough to get around — you have to slow down, not because of grip, but just to hand-over-hand the wheel.

Never attempted parallel parking with this setup. Probably never will!
 
I really like my 16:1 PST manual box in my 65 Dart. It isn’t to bad to park but I usually drive alone. For 300$ thought was hell of a deal.
 
Anyone use it on a street strip car...ideal for drag racing? I think I remember reading somewhere that 16:1 might be too twitchy and sensitive for drag racing? If that makes any sense.
 
hey guys some info , 16:1 is corvette 68-82 manual steering box . its a iron unit . the gears will interchange in the mopar manual sag alum box . no tricks there . just fact .
 
I’m on 225s up front and it’s manageable. Mine is a cheap reman box for whatever that’s worth.

It’s going to be unpleasant to parallel park...but let’s be honest. These cars have earned enough respect to never be parallel parked on the street again.

Why do you want the quicker ratio? What is your intended application?

16:1 doesn’t feel twitchy at all, IMO but if you are going drag racing, I wouldn’t bother.
 
I thought about replacing the 24:1 box on my dart with the PST 16:1 box, does anyone have a working promo code for PST?
Can the box be removed without lifting the engine? (383 with TTi shorty headers)
 
I have a 16:1 ratio Flaming River box in my Duster. 18x9” fronts with 275/35/18’s and +6.5* caster. It’s great once you’re going 15 mph. Parking lots aren’t terrible, parallel parking isn’t fun at all but it is possible if you set yourself up right. It’s my daily driver, so it can definitely be done. I’m sure not everyone would like it, but I think it’s great 98% of the time and it’s manageable the rest of the time.
 
a manual box should come out , but p/s box would be a lot more of a job , remove the starter and maybe some plugs around the box . steering linkage would drop and swing away . it could happen . exhaust pipe would be an issue too .

I love it driving. It’s a little heavier feel but it’s very responsive. The only time I don’t love it is below about 15 mph, and even then I’ve gotten used to it. If you put a little more thought into planning how you park it’s not really a big deal.

The PST box is the same externally as an OE box. The Flaming River box is actually slightly larger in some of its external dimensions, so I don’t think either one would give you any more clearance unless you’re comparing it to a power steering box.

i think i'd prefer that to the over assisted factory power steering in it now.. power steering crap is leaking everywhere.. i'd love to do that bergoson box but don't feel like dropping a thousand bucks on it to do it. the 16:1 manual box may be the ticket.. also go with the theme of the car more too.. factory manual steering is what 24:1? what the factory power box?
 
The standard manual steering is 24:1, fast ratio was 16:1. The factory power steering is 16:1, but the power boxes were designed to be powered so without power they feel quite a bit different even though the ratio is the same.
 
I too have a Flaming River unit in my 72 Dart. I got it years ago when they were around 450.00 and only paid 250.00 for it. There like 700.00 now. My car only has about 200 miles on it after a ground up build so I'm getting used to it. A little more work with a manual tranny. With an auto tranny no problem. I like the room and less weight of the manual box. I'll see how it goes for the summer but would like to keep it. If I do go to power I'll go with a 12:1 box.

Interesting. I happen to have a 68 Vette box sitting here. Have a few manual Mopar boxes too.
 
check it out , my hotrod buds told me about it , its a cool looking box on a hotrod . no one seems to know what its from but mopar guys do .
 
Anyone have real drag racing experience with a 16:1 manual box? I read some prefer the factory 24:1 but I'm street strip set up and trying to make a decision between the two PST ratios.
 
I like the 16:1 out on the road, or, drag racing. It's not real fun parking though. Mopar had a 20:1 gear set there for a while. Not sure they're still available or not. Might be a good compromise.
