My 66 Valiant wagon......

-
Had to take some time off from the wagon for other life things!

Just got new intake valves in, time to get the head done!

Also have a new intake for the 225!

Now, my question is, what should I run for a Holley 4 barrel on this? I'm thinking somewhere in the 500CFM range?

I believe the customary carb is the Holley 390CFM. I will say though that back in the 80’s when I didn’t know a thing, I was using an Edelbrock 600CFM on a Clifford intake and headers in a 72 stock motor in my daily driver 65 Dart.

Getting back to the Valiant finally!

And have decided to do a 4 speed standard trans swap on it while I'm neck deep into her!

Done my research and asked my questions here on the FABO forums, it's amazing the wealth of knowledge here!

Going the route of an A-833OD for her, mostly for the highway cruising.

Parts are coming in, still tracking down a bellhousing, transmission and shifter, but I have the pedals, clutch linkage and hump either here or on the way!

Wanted to give a shout out to Doug Strom who helped me out with the clutch linkage parts! Reasonably priced, packaged well and had them the next day!

Has a collection of 63-66 Valiant parts right now if anyone is looking! He's on here also!

Thanks again Doug!

So, as I'm waiting for the parts on the 4 speed conversion and the weather has been great here in Rhode Island, I've been plugging away at the sheetmetal repairs needed to get the firewall and fenderwell in paint.

Filled in a few holes in the firewall that aren't needed with the AC conversion, finished the bulkhead repositioning and rebuild the end cap for the passenger side rocker panel. I impressed myself with the endcap! ;)

Have some rot in the top of the passenger side frame rail (section between A frame mount) to fix and we'll get all this in paint for reassembly.

This weekend I'll be putting the engine and trans in the car, basically a quick mock up.

I want to double check 4 speed hump placement and connect all the clutch linkage, to make sure everything fits and to double check to see if I'm missing anything.

Also to check to see if the headers I picked up will work (which I'm very doubtful of!) with the clutch linkage or if I'll be going the stock manifold route.

Engine and trans in!

Will mockup the hump tomorrow hopefully.

Not sure if the headers will work, time will tell when I get the clutch linkage in.possibly 2 into 1, but it's damn close to the steering box.

Time will tell!

And I'll be peplacing part of the drivers floor also. :(

Been a while, but I finally have been dedicating some time to the wagon!

Concentrating on getting the sheetmetal work done, starting with the floors. Drivers side first! I'm making my.own patch panels since I don't like the quality of what I've seen out there.

Drivers side floor cut out, frame rails sandblasted, and primed....

and i've been toying with this idea alot, finally going ahead with it!

I've always loved the 66 Valiants, had a Signet in high school.....one thing i hate on the 66 wagon is the rear 65 bumper.

So I have decided to convert the rear of the wagon to a 66! It's going to be some work and fabrication, but i feel confident that I can achieve the look I'm going for!

First off, purchased a rear 66 fiberglass bumper from Glasstek. This will give me an idea of what I have to do as far as fitting the bumper to the body and the rear quarters to the bumper.

One thing I have noticed, is that the rear of the wagon is a few inches wider than the standard 66.
You can really see it around the taillight housings on the side......

I personally think that this will be fine, it will look like I have the rear bumper tucked in on the sides once done.

I will be keeping the high arched rear wheelwell openings, just changing the lower rear quarters and trunk dropdowns

So ill be evaluating all this as I move forward with the rest of the sheetmetal, so stay tuned!
