Well I absolutely love my v gate shifter, but it's becoming a bit of a hassle to get my foot off of the gas pedal and on to the break without my knee knocking on it....
The bracket brings it a couple inches if not a few over towards the driver and a couple inches forward... comfortable spot for shifting but when I go to get my foot off the gas pedal pins my knee so I can't easily get my foot on the brake...
I have the pistol grip shifter but the novelty of that wore off within the first 6 months that I had it. I really like the comfort of the ball shifter but now I have the nitrous activation button on the v gate. I went ahead and ordered a ball with the momentary switch on it and I'll see how that works... It's getting mostly Street driven now anyways so the v gate is not necessary...

I have played with a few shifters over the years in various Dusters, the one I like best so far is the one in my car now.
Hurst super shifter III, reverse lock out, with a factory handle drilled to make it bolt on.
Sits the right height so you are not reaching down for it, makes a nice driver.

Yes that's the same bayonet style that I like. It was very comfortable and I liked using it, I just have the v gate and like it for the drag strip and especially third gear. Now on the street I just seem to be over at a little bit...

If your legs weren't so long you wouldn't have this problem. The solution is to give the car to your favorite (and might I add local for easy delivery) Short Person whose knees would not have that issue.

time for a automatic on the column to go along with your A/C :)

I have that shifter. You can’t buy it any more. I guess you can buy a Super Shifter and add the reverse lockout but I’ve never verified that.

Yeah, that shifter has not been made for quite some time now, the handle that comes with it is really short.
Way to un-comfortable to shift with, worse than putting an E-body handle.

LOL...if you’re short and fat the SS3 handle ain’t to user friendly in an A body either.

Yep, it probably make it more consistent too.
at least it wouldn't be over before he hit 2nd.
I'd probably be afraid to line up against him on the street if he had a automatic.... I'd be up against more car and less J par....

I wouldn't even have to turn the AC off the lineup against anything you got.....

If you got the A/C on, I just might jump in your car and watch you race someone else... lol

No doubt. It’s hotter than a popcorn fart over here. And not cooling off for the rest of the week at least. If sweating made me lose weight, I might not care as much. But I sweat and gain weight. Go figure.

So I guess you're not working out in the potato field for the rest of the week. lol
You can probably still pick fruit in the orchard. lol

I’m not going anywhere near any fields. Trying to get this Duster in shape for a trip to PDX in a bit and then down to the End Of The World Rod Run, that was cancelled but some buddies and I are going down there to cruise for a bit that weekend.

Then the Duster gets new headers, a shift kit, a tuned up converter and then the owner gets it back.

This is your 73 Duster? Not a customer...

He has a Dart, I believe.

73 Dart Sport.

Yeah, I should be working on my junk, but I’ve got this project I need to get done, and a new 340 on the stand that needs to be broken in and sold, plus I’m helping FABO member zigs assemble and break in his 340 for his Dart.

Then I will get back to my junk. Plus I have several carbs and distributors to finish but that’s easy stuff.

I rowed a V-Gate type shifter once; the Mr-Gasket version.
I ran it for one summer, then retired it; on the street it sucks. I mean IMO, it sucks. Currently it is getting dusty on my also-ran shelf. With the Multi-strike, the ExCellerator, the OD-A833s, the B&B clutch, a pile of carbs, and a host of other also-rans.
You can't beat (see note 1) a (street)slick-shifted Commando box with a long-tail and the short-handle shifter moved back between the buckets, with beefy home-built rods, and a BALL-shifter knob.
Trust me on this,
lol.
You will never miss a shift again.
You will effortlessly bang it in at over 7200rpm.
Yet on the street the brass will work for you.
You will go down the track with your back slammed into the seat, and never again have to reach for third.
Loc-tite the levers onto the shift studs and the trans will never lose it's neutral gate adjustment ; set it and forget it.
and finding reverse is a pleasure.
(note 1)
Well you can, with a GVod used as a splitter, but that's another matter.
