Looking to put a 68 440 from a C body into my 74 scamp one of the issues ive run into is motor mounts.

The K frame I have is a 73 and up V8,the mounts from the 360 that came out of it and from the C body wont work.

Trans dept makes 67-72 RB mounts but cant see any for 73 and up.

Schumacher is out of stock and way out of price for what I would want to pay.

Anyone have luck making their own? I can work with templates once I the engine bay finished but would like to skip that step if I could figure out the geometry of it all beforehand.

The reason the split at 73 is your car body has what are known as "spool" mounts, the 72/ earlier cars had the pillow mounts. I think there is likelyhood Schumaker is done. "I THINK" there was a thread on this some time ago. People "did this" before Transdapt and Schumaker came along.........

There was a thread a few days ago about a motor plate. I never realized until someone pointed it out..........you can mill the thickness of the motor plate off the water pump housing, and avoid the nonsense about pulley spacing.

Jim Lusk is a member here who made some great videos with measurements to modify a k-frame.

Yeah the whole biscuit/spool thing between the two generations.

Yeah I dont think I could afford the mounts from schumaker anyways after currency conversion, taxes, duties, and shipping they would be close to 600-700 dollars.

I just need to know height width and depth for where the bolt should end up being.

Moroso has a line of SBM mounts that use a 32-48 Ford biscuit mount. Used them in my Hemi to F100 deal....they work good.

Yeah this would be option two for me is modify the K frame, may have to go this route but preferably just fabricate the mounts that go on the block itself.
It is much easier to modify the K frame to work with factory mounts than it is to build custom mounts. Watch the video a couple of times and then take a look at your K frame. If you don't have the tools or talent to do it yourself you should be able to find a local shop who can handle it. It is very basic street rod fab. Cut, move, reinforce, weld.

Its looks fairly easy just hesitant about cutting the K member,Im still going to need a set of 440 spool mounts though is there one from another mopar that works or is it all custom too?

Streetmasters, MN made a mount to put a B/RB in a 65 A. It was a nested U channel of 2 different sizes fastened with a through bolt on one end, like a hinge. One side bolted to the K and the other side bolted the the ears of the block. Suppose you could make something like this and use an insulator between the K and the mount to give you a stock type mount. This style allowed you to manipulate the angle to match the K and the ears and then run the bolts through the ears. If you can cut the spool mounts off, you could run this style. Motor plates are cheap and you can move the motor if needed.

Did some digging through old posts looks like I need 5 1/4 from center of crank to top of K and 2 1/2 offset to passanger side.Well thats a step in the right direction I may copy what the schumaker mounts do and cut the driver side mount down for oil pump clearance.

Well will see what I can come up with.

You CANNOT make up a driver side mount that will not require modification to the driver side mount saddle. That is because the oil pump takes up the same space. Schumacher mounts have you cut the saddle shorter and drill a new hole. Do yourself a favor and pull the k-member and modify it. The big block passenger car spool mounts are out there and often can be found on E-bay.

Yeah. I snagged them bad boys. Now I don't have to get new inserts. lol

I noticed.

Oh well,Gives me a chance to put the last 10 yearsI have been working in fabrication to the test.

Started the whole thing for two reasons,I want a somewhat irresponsible amount of horsepower in a car I think is cool, and to give myself a challenge, something to do and attack.

I do appreciate the advice and im not discounting it because I think I know better,I just wanna do it a different way just because.

People are going to hate me when I get to trying to make headers....

Apparently big block 3642814 & 3642815 spool mounts will work. I have not attempted yet.

I debated modifying the k member I have, but if I ever need to go back to the small block I would have to source a k member.

I have also been looking at motor plates right now. My problem is headers. I want to retain the power steering (for wife) but I need the headers to handle 512 cubes. 2 inch primaries and power steering dont mix.

Someone had a BB spool type K Member fore sale a few weeks ago in the Classified section here. I would buy that and sell yours if it's still around.

 no ones going to hate on you. it's just not knowing what your capable of and not sure what you were trying to accomplish.
also trying to help you not reinvent the wheel when they have one out in the barn ready to roll
if you have the skills and the impulse, i'm looking forward to what you come up with

electric power steering

Great post!
O.P., just do the Jim Lusk modification and don't look back.
It just flat out works, and is straight forward, what more do you want?
You say that you are a fabricator, so it would be easy for you.
I am a welder/fabricator as well, and I plan on doing this in the near future when I finally install a big block in one of my A-Bodies.
I don't see any reason to reinvent the wheel here.........
BTW, where in B.C. are you from?
Feel free to p.m. me on this if you don't want to display it on the site.
I'm originally from Cranbrook, and mostly all of my cars and parts are there.

Langley.

Thanks.
That's quite a ways away from me.
I live in Lethbridge, Alberta now and go back to Cranbrook once in awhile to get some parts and visit.
If there's anything that you need, or any other advice, don't hesitate to p.m. me and I will give you my contact information.
I do have quite a bit of stuff, mostly '68 and up parts and cars especially '73 and newer A-Bodies..........

I can kinda relate to Jesse. I have a fabrication background also and have been pondering a few ways to complicate Jim's k frame mod process. Was thinking how to move the perches and make it look stock and re weld the factory welds. Maybe add the factory style skid plate while at it. But I can see why Mopar and Jim cut and moved the perches where they did. I will be running tti headers and the recommended process has been proven. Either way. Jim's video and measurements are a great help.

There was a guy in SoCal who was cutting the entire saddle off and relocating it. In my opinion, it is too easy to lose the reference point.
