Welp, here I am at 44 years old. Having never learned or never wanted to learn how to do a burnout. I never was a guy to clown around and tear my cars up. Call it a midlife crisis, but I’m wanting to learn now. Lol ! I played around with it a little for the first time, the other day. I understand you need to drop an automatic down in to first. Hold the brake and give it hell. For a first attempt. I did ok. Spun tire well enough from a stop. My understanding, if I wanted to move forward while continuing to burnout. I would need to very lightly let off the brake. While continuing to floor the gas pedal. That part, didn’t go so well. Lol ! What am I missing or need to try ?

Install a line lock.

I have heard that fabric softener will make for a glorious smoke filled burnout

They say the same about bleach. I don’t care about smoke. I want to move forward, while continuing to spin. Maybe, I don’t have enough power. What is a line lock ?

A line lock (or roll control) is an electric solenoid, usually inserted in the brake line to the front wheels. You press hard on the brakes, engage the solenoid. The front brakes are then still locked, as long as you keep the button pressed, the rears are free to spin without fighting the brakes. Most can do a burn out for as long as they want , the car won't move however.
You can experiment with brake pressure, to allow the car to move, slowly, while holding the line lock. That's how they do the looong smoky burnouts.

You’ll have to learn the feel for it over time. Foot on the brake and hit the gas pedal half throttle, at this point the rear of the car will raise, when you feel all the cars weight shift to the front, that is the split second you have to smash the gas and let go of the brake. If you don’t have enough power to get the smoke rolling, then try the same maneuver with the wheel cut all the way to the left or right. Of coarse we will need pics or a video.

5k, dump the clutch and hang on or something breaks. Make sure you have lots of room.
You mean, I shouldn’t back up to my asshole neighbors garage door ? While the door is open and he’s inside the garage talking on the phone about how wonderful he is ?

Huh, learn something every day. Never was aware of that. Thanks, for explaining it to me. That would make a burn out a hell of a lot easier if you’re not fighting the rear brakes.

Low gear burnouts with a Torqueflite is a good way to take the planetaries out of the teansmission. First to second as soon as the tires spin.If you don't have enough to burn tires in second, forget it. There's a reason why drag racers wet their tires first.

Yes, I researched what you said. My understanding is. Don’t let off the gas in 1st gear. So, I up shifted. Before, I left off gas. To avoid breaking anything. I’m not going to push my luck very much. I just wanted to learn how to best do it or see if I could improve. My dad use to drag race when I was young at a sponsored track. But, he passed away just as I was about to turn 16. Before, I got a chance to learn from him. I don’t recall anyone wetting tires when I watched back then.
This was my old man at the track. I was around 12 when this picture was taken. He was about 32-33 . I missed out on a lot over the years, resulting in him passing very young. He always owned a bad *** car back then. It’s been nearly 30 years and people still bring up how he always had the nicest cars. Very big car guy. Where I wasn’t for a long time because I missed out on sharing those things with him to a large degree. I’ve grown into that stuff in the past few years. It connects me to him, because I miss him.

Totally wrong Mike. Nothing wrong with a low gear burnout when ur in manual low on the shifter. The band is locked on to the drum as well as the sprag. The problem occurs not when u shift to second but when the tranny shifts to low on its own and the sprag is free wheeling. If u shift back to low b4 the tranny does on its own I will never blow anything. Kim

Hi Justin, good here so far. How r u coping with everything going on? Kim
Life can be tough. But, I’m a fighter buddy. Same for all of us I’m sure. I bought a really nice 73 Dart a few months ago and I’m really enjoying how well it runs. Never expected it to outrun my other car. It’s very fun to drive. I might sell the Coronet I showed you pictures of. I can’t afford to own both. So, I might decide on letting one go. How about yourself ? What’s new north of the border ?

So, if you keep it in low. No risk ? I heard if you’re in low, you don’t want to lift off the gas. While in low ?

Sorry for your lose, that is a great picture.

i dont know if my line lock is different from most, but it is a simple one way valve
it stops brake fluid (and thus, pressure) from getting out of the front brake circuit

so i flick on the line lock and step on the brake, it builds pressure on the front brakes
i can even pump it a few times to really build it

Dude that video is awesome.

thanks

i love how you can hear my son warn his friend in the car behind him to get down (she was popping out the sunroof)

Here is my 73 "Two Scoops" /6, 2 barrel burnout and then the swap burnout LOL Have fun it's GREAT!!!

No need to get fancy parts like line lock/roll control to do a burnout.

Step one. Put foot on brake.
Step two. Put foot on accelerator peddle to the floor.
Step three. Wait for smoke to start.
Step four. Let off brake.

It's not rocket science.
