On a 225 slant is there any other source where a mechanical oil pressure gauge can be hooked up?

I was going to tee at the oil pressure switch and add a pressure gauge, but the stock switch is super tight.
I put a socket on it with a 1/2" rachet, at it does not want to budge. I am afraid to break the stock sending unit off if I put any more pressure on it.

I'm not a slant expert but offhand I'd say "if there was one" then "everybody" would be doing it. Instead of arguing "down there" with all the tees and elbows and fittings in one hell of a tight spot, maybe? it might be easier to come off the engine "as you can" with a good quality hose assembly (no3 AN or something) and remote mount "the mess" that is the sender/ tees etc over on the firewall somewhere

If you don't connect it at the pump with a Tee, then the only other option is to drill and tap into the main oil galley on the lower right side of the block, just above the oil pan rail.
jus sayin....

There are usually two places you can pick up oil pressure without major (or any) surgery. One is the obvious location at the rear of the oil pump where the pressure sender is usually screwed in. The other is at the rear of the main oil galley on the distributor side of the block—there's usually a pipe plug, same 3/8" NPT thread as the sender port in the oil pump. The factory put the pressure sender there in some '63-'64 motors (with a pipe plug in the oil pump), but on very hard braking sometimes this location would momentarily run low on oil, making the oil pressure warning light flicker and frightening Mr. and Mrs. Carbuyer, so they moved the sender back to the pump and issued a TSB for dealers to do the same for whoever came in with that complaint on one of those cars.

Thanks Dan, I will look for the extra pipe plug.

Has anyone ever used a "sandwich plate" that threads into the oil pump between the pump and filter and has multiple threaded holes? I'm having a similar no budge issue on my sending switch... I already made up my T and all but thought the sandwich plate could be a cleaner option.

I think the plate would be a bigger pain than taking the sending unit out.
I cleaned most of the grease from around my sending unit, I will clean some more tonight.
And heat around the sender and see if it will come out.

I did modify a small block plate spacer for the thermostat to hook a mechanical temperature gauge, not quite finished with it yet.

never used one on a classic but ive had them on imports with good success

I got the sending unit out last night, heated around it for about 30 seconds with some MAP gas, gave it one hard push with a 1/2 ratchet and it spun loose.

Good to hear!
I am glad its out also, when I was pushing on the rachet all I could think of was don't break off, I had visions of angle drills and easy-outs were going thru my head.
The heat made a difference, looking at the end of the sensor it looks like it may have had some sludge build up on the end of it.

no kidding
i had a brand X family hauler a while ago that has oil sensor issues
so i bought a new sensor and while installing it, it broke of
now i had basically a 3/16 hole for oil to escape

not a fun project
