after swapping the engine from my 66 to my 65, i just removed the blower carb ect complete., installed the engine and blower, torqed the blower nuts in the right pattern and torq...cranked her up until it had fuel pressure...mach pump, fired right up. shut it off to ck things out, tried to restart it, its started right up, made a noise and died....the belt had skipped and loosend, and the blower wont turn now. with belt off and blower nuts off still wont turn...no problem with blower at all before...
 
there must be something jammin it up . is there any chance a nut or a washer could fall into the carbs ?
 
Hopefully nothing got sucked into the blower! I'm like a surgeon when opening up my motor. All nuts, bolts, and washers need to be accounted for before I fire it up! 65'
 
Can you turn it the opposite direction?

If the entire engine is seized up, I wonder if the timing chain may be to blame

Maybe remove all thesparkplugs, valve covers and try again?

(The valve covers only need to come off for inspection of course)

no. pulled the belt off the blower and raised it off the manifold blower doesnt turn either direction.
 
Man, I know nothing about blowers, but that sounds like something got bound up in there

Am I right that the engine turns freely still?

And it is the same engine the blower was on before, right?
Just in a different chassis?

yes no issues at all just swapped cars...
 
Hate to say it, but im afraid it's time to pull the carbs and take a look at the rotors

Just wish I could have actually helped

I'm trying to think if there is anything that could have gotten sucked in or something, but dollars to donuts...some piece of hardware made it passed the screen
Or maybe something inside came loose

teflon seals? Maybe you popped one? Dont know about Rootes style blowers but I did hear about a "dusted" bus motor that injested dirt and the 671 blower was shot.
 
Could also be a bearing in the front or rear case of the blower or something in the gearing.
 
not sure what happend, i was able to get it to turn by moving it back and fourth, there was one small spot on two of the rotors about an 1'' from the end that was hitting the case, was able to smooth them down so it would turn free, looks like the front end of the blower may have been tightned down to where the rotors touched the housing and built up material until it ceased..it turns free now both ways but not sure if i should run it ....calling dyer in the morning and ask them
 
thats weird, yet good that it looks runnable. That would suck big time if it sucked anything up and locked or scarred the housing.

it was just on the leading edge of two rotors one small spot on the bottom front of the case,,, dont know it will hurt it or not...it spins smooth
 
Obviously something got in there somehow and is now dislodged. I would check the plenum before I ran that engine again. Whatever it was could have fallen in and you don't want whatever it was going through the engine.

i had the blower on the bench, when i was working on it...i didnt see anything, that was locking it up other than what i said above...its crazy,,, it never really ran, just started and i shut it off to check it over, then tried to restart it, it made an attempt then locked,,,looked like a build up of alum in thoses two little spots

The fact that you say there looked to be a build up of aluminum in those two spots tell me that something got in there, spun with the rotors, scored the casing and then dislodged. Time to check it out real good.

ok this get crazy, i call dyer they said i need a 0.15 blower base gasket they have, and that a thicker gasket will cause my issue, they have delt with the issue before...now here is the crazy part, i was able to clean up the rotors and turns smooth and free....i re used the base gasket that it ran with before, it is thick about 0.30.... so i bought a new gasket from a local race store, its the only one they have for a 871 blower...so i installed it proper pattern and torq spec...it doesnt turn free, so i guess ill order a new one from dyer on mon. there install inst, said to use a thin gasket or a gas resistent sealer.
 
Is the housing flexing with the thicker gasket? Im thinking the .015 gasket wont compress as much as the .030 and possibly keep the housing from twisting or binding on some serious tolerances of a Rootes type blower....?
