'64 Valiant bodyside molding clips, info wanted.

I have a full set of side moldings, but no clips.
What do they look like, and how do they attach?

C'mon, someone has to have at least a pic of one of these so I know what I'm looking for, or how I might modify something else to work!:)
 
I have the same Val as you but the moldings are on the car. I've never had them off so no help. I don't have the car here but maybe I can take one off next weekend.
In the mean time, you might check with R/T Specialties as they seem to have the best clip selection.

I've been unable to find anyone that has it listed. If I knew what it looks like and how it attaches I can attempt to find something that might work.
Looking at the moldings it seems something like this might work, but I have not yet pulled the panels to see if there is access to put a nut on the threaded bolt.

I'm working on my 64 right now, All the moldings are off, so I will be in the same boat, I have to look thru the tubs of parts I got (car was apart) and see what I can find and will share the results!

2 big swap meets happening here in a few weeks, gonna see what I can find.
Looking closely these have a solid round tip on the "back" side opposite the spread tip. I expect it can be cut off.
Also this one appears to be the same, and you get 50 for $80.

that solid round tip on the back is what you push flush with the retainer after it is installed into the hole to lock it in place.

OK, I get that, but I'm curious as to how the molding attaches to it once the clip is on the body.
I guess I'll see when I get them....

The trim expands just a bit to clip over the the widest points of the retainer, and then snaps on

They came today! Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
I puched one of the pins in, fit one side into the molding, placed it flat on my bench, gave it a good smack and it popped on. Here are a few pics.
Not sure why I thought I needed 40, looks like 11 or 12 per side on my 2 door, so I should have plenty of spares! I think there may have been a few extra holes in the door.
Right now I haven't started paint prep, I'm gonna try one of the short molding pieces and see if it pops on. It took a pretty good smack on the work bench to seat it, but with my hand, not a mallet! It wouldn't just push on. I'm guessing that is faiirly normal.
They came from the same ebay seller you initially posted, but the larger volume listing is from the link I quoted above.

I tried 3 clips today with the short rear quarter molding.
Not sure quite what is going on with my car, that's why I call it 'Bitsa'!
A few of the clean holes on the drivers door are centered 1" up from the body beltline.
The holes in the quarter were 3/4" up from the beltline, which wont allow the molding to clear, and the rearward hole was too close to the curved up end of the molding.
I could see on the inside of the molding where previous clips had been installed, so I marked those positions on the body and drilled new 5/16" holes 1" up from the beltline. (or so I thought!)
HINT: Make sure all your cars body holes are perfectly aligned, there is no wiggle room for being 1/16" off! :BangHead:
It is possible to remove and save a clip by drilling a small hole in the center of the push in lock pin, screw a wide land decking or drywall screw into the hole and pulling the pin out with pliers.
Anyway, once the holes were aligned :rolleyes: I installed the clips. It took a fair amount of force with my smaller ball peen hammer to lock the clips in place!
I aligned the bottom edge of the molding with the bottom of the clips and slapped the top over the clip with the heel of my hand. This took less force than I had imagined and I don't forsee any paint damage on installation after I paint.
Molding removal was fairly simple using a thin blade screwdriver with a plastic bondo spreader protecting the paint.
I'll remove these 3 clips when I start prepping for paint rather than trying to sand over them.
I was lucky to get a full set of straight moldings from @Mojack, I have not yet cleaned & polished them.

That may be why some were off, but these are the ony clips I've come across that fit the molding, and I have no problem drilling a few extra holes if necessary. The molding is very secure on the body panel.
BTW @Cudabnu thanks again for the initial find of these clips!
