New to forum, may not be the right place....
What would a set of well seasoned 340 U code heads minus rockers (OF COURSE!) be worth?
Still have lead from leaded gas in ports!

Would you offer more for the 20+ yr of dust? Lol

Thanks in advance!

50 yr old heads, 800 bucks. Maybe a numbers guy would give 1000 or more. The valves are all junk probably in the heads need another six hundred bucks to them to get him in shape plus parts

Yikes ! Who left them in a mud hole for 20 years?
I bought a seat of X heads that looked like that and they were junk.
All the seats where rust pitted so bad they all needed seats installed.
No way I would trust that. If I were you I would clean them real good
and when they look pretty post them somewhere like ebodysonly
or moparts, to get any money out of them you will need some good pictures.

Shot blast cab, let them spin around for 20 or 40 min...and see if theres any head left. Lol
You're right though, they came off for a reason. maybe cracked...maybe w2's went on instead.
..

Story i got was..... lady's deceased husband took them off a wreck from junkyard ..late 70's early 80's .
Was going to put them on his Duster.... sat ever since....
They are fithly and rusted dont think thay are pitted but will need further inspection after a good clean.
Thanks for the replies!

I would INVEST a few dollars to have a machine shop clean them and mag them for cracks....and see what condition they are in...

Honestly that's what I'd pay. I'd use them.
Thing is...only advantage is at the pinch ...and thst would require modifying them and losing that collector value 'to an extent'.
I did state that a numbers guy would offer a 1000 or more for them. That's the truth, could be 2500. But as is, 800.00 is as much as I would gamble or would pay to have a head marginally better than a regular j head.
I'm not a purist collector, though I am into oddball vintage performance, factory or not.
I respect you might not agree with my view.
I didn't mean it as the end all.

Do you have the rocker arms?......You need the TA rockers.....or have to buy Harland Sharp aluminum rockers....

I have a friend who has a set of TA heads in plastic bags since they come out of the machine shop years ago....could not get 1000 for them at MATS a couple of years ago...why...NO Rockers..

Tub of white vinegar might clean them up enough to see if there pitted.

Blast cab, wire wheel drill, flat table and sand paper, if you havent a shop near.

Factory rockers will cost a ton of $$$$$$ if you can find a set, heads are useless with out them.

You're bein awful optimistic.

I also know where a set is for a very good deal....But he wants $1500 bucks for The Rocker assembly.... these may be a little cleaner than those but I'm so leery of dropping a wad of cash without seeing clean bill of health from knowledgeable machinist

Why would you want them? You're gonna have to spend TWICE what a decent set of aluminum heads would cost getting TA heads reconditioned and then buying rocker arms.

I was thinking about buying them to resell to a purist but there's no meat on the bone left

Regardless, they are still "old cast iron" heads. They weren't even cool in their day, because they didn't flow a gnat's *** more then any other 2.02 equipped small block head. They had to be ported to take advantage of the relocated pushrod. So that was "more work". But for a short time.......they were "all that was".

Another guy asking 800 for damaged heads and you actually consider them...lol..but these are rusty , "eww..50 bucks"

It's so easy to clean them up. He could soak those in vinegar overnight and they'd look like totally different heads. Appearance means a lot. Stupid, but it does.

Vulture? That would indicate I have interest, when trust me, I do not. I don't think I have a small block part on the property. .....and you can pay 250 for J heads. I will not.
Hey Rob! What would you say it would take cost wise in your neck of the woods for a total rebuild of those heads?

I guess it'a all a matter of what you're messin with. I don't mess with small block stuff, so it's not worth much "to me". Sure, they're worth more than 50 bucks, but look at um. Then after you get um cleaned up, you have to "hope" they aren't cracked. Then after you spend 600-700 on them for new guides, seats and valves, you have to hunt up expensive valve gear. Since you're waving their flag, you can go buy um.

Is anyone sure these are T/A heads with the offset pushrod holes? They don't look like it to me.

I had a set of U heads and didn't run offset rockers.

I might be wrong, but I don't think the U means it was machined with the offset pushrod hole. That was a separate procedure.

If they don't have the offset pushrod holes, don't think they are worth any more than any other set of J/O heads.

See post 33. lol
LMAO! Similar deal here on that. I don’t need them personally. There actual worth is what someone is willing to pay for them. How bad they “NEED” them.

Prices up here are double without batting an eye if not more. Last set I seen was $1200. (Made me gag for a second and mutter WTF?!?!)
Yea! Let’s talk about that valve gear a minute!
IIRC, *I Think* Hughesengines has rockers that will work. Add what ever cost that is on top of what ever someone pays locally for the rebuild.

Unless your doing a resto job and “NEED” these exact heads for the “RESTORATION” that needs to be restored right..... lets look a set of aluminum heads and start the bang for the buck weight scale show down.
