it is really hard to find 68-69 Barracuda bucket seats with headrests as they were not common options at the time these cars were built.

i have two sets of black buckets for two of my cars that i want to put headrests on. i also have the headrest components and chrome bezels that the headrest assemblies fit into. has anyone ever installed a set of headrests on a non-headrest seat? do you have any pics or can you offer some advice or guidance?

thanks...

I did that on my 69 Dart years ago. You need to feel your seats and make sure yours have the holes in the frames for the hardware. Not all of them did. But I remember it wasn't that hard.

the two headrest bezels screw into the top of the seat with two screws each. are you saying that i might be able to feel the hole for the headrest shaft and the two screw holes in the seat top frame under the seat cover?

i'm guessing you have to remove the seat cover to be able to install the plastic headrest shaft guides. is that what you did?

You won't be able to feel the two tiny screw holes but you should be able to feel the large hole for the head rest shafts. I did mine after I had my seats recovered. It was a little nerve racking cutting the hole for the shafts.

Hey Jim when you see "bump" in a ad, what that does is refresh the ad and brings it back to the first page again. Plus ads that have not had a post in 30 days are deleted by the moderators.

thanks for the info on "bump." who puts in the "bump?" - the seller and how is that done or the moderators put in "bump" and then bring the ad back up to a first page again?

My October 68 build, 69 Fish has the means but was ordered headrest delete. The mounting and all was there on re-upholstery! Had a good discussion about that today at Garlits. I would believe any 68/69 seats have the cuts for them and just need the hardware installed. JMO!

i have two pretty nice sets of OEM 68 black buckets that i will check to see if i can determine if the headrest holes are there. i also have a set of OEM blue buckets that have headrests on them these but they are in very poor condition. i have been meaning to take them apart as they have to be completely restored and recovered. when i do disassemble these seats, i will take some pics and post them here so anyone wanting to install headrests on non-headrest seats will be able to see what it takes.

If you take a 66 or earlier bucket apart you'll find the upper member of the back frame is round tubing. No holes for head rests. For 67 and later that frame member is square tubing with holes through for headrests. When I put 67 seat skins on 66 frames I found the back frame with round tubing is a little bit too tall. The binding on the seat skin peeks out from under the steel back in 2 little spots.

thanks for the personal experience info... my cars are 68 and 69's and all the parts i have are for those years. the three sets of buckets i have are 68 and 69 so i'm hoping i find the holes already in the frame like you and another FABO guy has noted.

You will need an installation kit like this one 810BUK-KIT Mopar 1968-70 A,B,C-body Bucket Seat Headrest Mounting Kit

A few photos from installing on my '69 SRT8CUDA
