OOOOK . Back story first. I have 69 Dart that I've had for far to long ( last drove is in 1999)
the car has been apart forever and now I'm trying to put it back together for next year .
like many of us I'm on a Budget and funds are tight .
I have a 73-400 that I'm thinking of using for a yr / 2 to get the car moving and work the bugs out. I want the car to have a great sounding idle (rough) Its going to be a stock 400 with 906 heads/cam/ headers 4:10 Dana and 3500 stall convertor .
I wish the 400 had more compression but they dont.
I'm thinking abut the Comp cams CL21-602-5 Thumpr cam ( 507/494 ) do I have enough piston clearance ??
I know its not going to be a great combination for this set up but If I'm being honest im more interested in the " sound " of the car then the performance ( for next year) future plans call for a 400 something stroker but because I have the rest of the car to reassemble its not in the budget for next summer and I'm tired of the car sitting.

thoughts?

I think it's a great idea! That's what the Thumpr cams are made for. You have plenty of piston to valve clearance. Go for it! It'll sound nasty and with the converter and gears, it'll run nasty. Do it.

You'll probably end up with something sounding like this.

thats what I'm after how bad will it perform? I think with the 3500 stall and 4;10 it should be "OK"

by the i've been following you 400 build . very nice !

Thanks! I wish it could be a little more extravagant, but it's not and that's cool. It's "all" I can do though.

I already have this cam out of my junk 383 that I’d like to run but I don’t think it’ll have lump I’m after ( never heard the 383 )

It appears to be just a 90* pie shaped hunk of aluminum. Pretty smart.

HL... high lift.

Measure the lobe lift. Might be 250/260 @.050

Worst case it's the opposite, lol

That's what I found too, but nothing close to that 2526 part number. All like 22xx

400's will haul the mail. What ET are you hoping to run? Keep us posted

Honestly I probably wont even track the car next yr, just looking to drive/car show it, If it has so grunt all the better.

Get a lift measurement on that cam. Do you have a dial caliper?

If you can get hold of @IQ52 he has done some amazing builds with low compression motors too.

Yes he has. And yet it still seems the first thing everybody wants to do is get compression on the ragged edge. It's just not necessary.
