Sink in bathroom clogged like a ****. 3 snakes down and 2 1/4" snakes almost stuck in there, barely got them out but ruined the tips as they almost unwound when trying to free them to get them out. 3rd was a 3/8 snake from my other neighbor with 4 girls so he has a big one with a drill on it. Got that down there and that one hit same thing and got stuck, started to wind up. Good thing is the clog is only about 5 feet away and is over the tub branch so its not affecting the tub, but Im gonna have to cut this cast 2" **** out and PVC it. The clean out is above the tub from the roof so the snake goes right past the branch that is plugged and there is no vent opening for the sink branch. Took freaking rocks out of the stub that the trap is connected to and had to remove that stub as the threads were shot. Took a jack to get the pipe loosened! Bummer

I don' know what to tell you. I CAN STILL SMELL the "oakum" when Grampa was leading the cast pipes, I was maybe 5 years old. HUGE gas fired lead pot

Seems like you even touch that old type pipe you have to deal with other parts of it. I say cut....not twist. get some kind of union that uses a rubber compression ring.

I’ve had luck using a good shop wetvac sealed at the top of the drain and tapping the cast with a hammer at the clog. If you can free it up at all some of it should come free enough to be sucked back up. Good luck.

Thats actually kinda brilliant.
 
Ever used a Drain King? Works great in some situations. It is a inflatable rubber bladder you put on the end of a garden hose. Put it down the drain, turn water on & it expands to seal the pipe. Will blow clogs out. However, It will also blow up traps and other weak spots in your plumbing.
 
Neither will work on this bad boy as there is a vent stack right above it. All the pressure will go up and out. Vent stack terminates in wall. Gonna cut and assess tomorrow. Done the rubber band clamp before, not scared to use it again. Cant get the "little buddy" bladder as there is a hard 90 right where I need to get down into. I have one and it does work great in the clean out at the base of my kitchen, straight shot under the kitchen from the outside.

Yep, tried that. Thought I had the drain cleared with one till I noticed it was raining outside on a sunny day. Water was coming out the roof stack & down over the kitchen window.
