Heads, which ones when....

-
I think I'm in the wrong sport...
What ever happened to.... "right out of the box" products? Must everything be so complicated, why can't you just buy a head that's already, ported, valved ( new terminology, lol) shafted and ready to go no better than this head that you just bought ?
But, noooo ! We need to find Jack the head guy, who will then show you on Joe the flow guy, how good the head is because Peter says you need to use Brad's intake manifold if you want the work Jack did to show on Joe's work sheets.
Bah Humbug... and it's Christmas.

You can. Trick Flow or ProMaxx will be ready out of the box. But many here will recommend having someone in the know check them out wherever they come from. No company is perfect and is it worth the risk of hanging a valve?

Hello Experts
As always I come here open minded but broken hearted...
Yet, still hoping for correct minded advice and help.

Now I know this is going to be a result of "preference" but can there be a good way/proof of what is the better if not the best small block head one can use on an engine already producing about 350-400hp (without the bottle)
Is there an aluminium style head that if one was able to obtain no questions asked, would we all go and buy ?

Thanks.

PS. If there is a need to know certain things please ask and I will reply.
340 Formula S Barracuda A Body, 4 speed, 4.10, Caltracs, mono leafs.
10.5 Compression, 550-575 lift cam (Solid, mechanical) 6 bbl induction.
Headers Hooker Super Comp. (Adjustable race headers)
Thanks again...
Just so I'm understanding you correctly, your current motor makes 350-400hp and you want to upgrade, correct? Also street only, correct?

What exactly are you looking for (HP #, or ET#)....it is easier to make a suggestion if there is a specific goal in mind. All engine parts (the combo) need to work together to make the most of them, which is why I'm asking.

^^This^^

I had great luck with my Edelbrocks, bought them used and had them ported and they ran great. I'm not a buy it, bolt it on type of guy when it comes to heads and intakes though.

Fair enough, I have this small block as you know, I want to run in the low 11s to high 10s, the car already ran in the 11s but I like to run in on the street really, enjoy it more like that but I want it to be able to run consistent mid 11s... Without the bottle.

Gotcha. Some ported Edelbrocks would work well for this, or the new Trick flows. Both of these heads would give you the potential to get into the low 11's to high 10 second range with your current setup.

Sorry, I didn't see it, but what heads are currently on the car? Ported cast iron?

Yes, I also have original W2 Race prepared that Mancini originally sold but the stock styled ones have been pretty good as wellcv with the compression I was running.(what I was told to use, instead of the W2)
