The Black Ghost 1970 Challenger

You can have either car.
But you can never sell it or transfer it.
You only get to keep it as long as you live.
And you cannot monetize it in any way.
Which one will you take?
Those are the rules.

Seriously? Talk about reality and Pulp Fiction. So you're going to provide a pretend game because I have an opinion other than yours about the Bullitt? Bring them to me, I'll pick one, those are the rules.

What is my opinion?
Hollywood writers are very good at putting words in other people's mouths.

Hollywood writers have nothing to do with the way the car was found, the ownership history behind it or the way the car was built, and who had driven it in the movie. I personally think it's something to see. I wasn't picking one car over another. They both have their merits and both were owned by private citizens.

If Mecum get’s a hold of the owner, I’ll bet they convince him to sell it just like they did with the family of the Bullitt car, that said they would never sell it too.

I bet Mecum offered to sell the Bullitt Mustang for no commission just for the attention it got for them. I watched that auction with about 10 “car guys” at my work on the computer, so it seemed to work. Some of them had never heard of Mecum before...

The Bullitt Mustang has sold for $3.4 million at a Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Fla. (With buyers fees included, the total price of the sale jumped to $3.74 million.) The hammer price was the most money ever spent on a Mustang at public auction, beating the previous record of $2.2 million for the 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake set at Mecum’s Kissimmee auction in 2019.

With exceptions, Hollywood is Fiction.
I believe what I presented to you was not fiction but rather a hypothetical, a Dilemma to illustrate a point.
No more, no less.
Provenance aside.
If you did not want to make the choice, I can understand.
Thanks.

I wouldn’t care how much money the car might be worth, I would keep it and drive it just like the son is, then hand it down to my son. No amount of money could take the place of the car, and that was not the Dads wishes. And of course, little Gregory would be heartbroken!

I saw that car in the survivor tent at Carlisle.
I remember thinking, Why is that Africa sticker on that Challenger?
Now I know the back story, and appreciate it more.
I hope to see it again!

Greg Qualls brought the Black Ghost out to the 2019 Clinton Township Gratiot Cruise. Greg (sporting the Twisted Axle Car Club t-shirt) had his son accompany him for this event.
