Awhile back I made a jig to convert a 67 slant sux K frame to V8. At that time i lopped off that 1 year only bastard child idler arm mount. Well using a different K frame with the 68-76 idler arm mount as a jig, i made a fixture to install a 68-76 idler arm mount on the 67 K frame in the exact correct location with the correct geometry. I may only use it one time to mod this K frame, but I at least have it in case I need to check another K frame for squareness. All that's left is to bzzzzzzt this bracket in, and unbolt the jig.
Heres pix

OH MAN!!! I've thought about this and for "some reason" never occurred to jig off the steering box mount!!

There was another thread I started the other day about hardware sorting. One of our illustrious members said he tossed all his used hardware out when he finally made enough money that he could afford new. Heres the funny part, the tube spacers I used at both ends of this thing were in that hardware box that my son and I sorted out yesterday. The 2 on the steering box side are perfect inner diameter so theres no slop. The one on the idler arm bracket end was the exact right size diameter for that end so there was no slop there either. This is just another reminder why I dont throw out anything anymore unless it's truly junk.

Wow, I've thought of this but always thought I'd have to go off the motor mount. This is soooo much better.

It makes the most sense to jig this off the steering box mount since it's pretty much inline and part of the steering.

Hey Matt,
Im thinking at some point using this idea to convert my 67 to the later idler. I have a big block in the car and assume its a V8 K member, does your jig work for my situation?

Nice job!

Yes it will work. The steering box and idler arm mount locations are all the same from 67-76 all slanty, small block, big block. The factory big block A body K frames are actually modified small block K frames. "All" the A body idler arm mounts are the same from 68-76 regardless of weather or not the K frame is slanty, or V8 flat mount or spool mount.

You just turned my light bulb on. Great fixture. The pictures are already saved to my CP. Thanks Steve
Thanks Steve. Glad you like it. I have been thinking about how I wanted to do this for a while. Finally I just dug thru my scrap metal and came up with it. I am pretty pleased with it.

Do I change my center link or any adjacent steering gear? You could sell it as a kit that comes with a bracket and an idler. pretty sweet man! Im always happy to sponsor your habit, you come up with goot stuff ya!

Oldmanmopar heres the other jig I made that uses K frame bolts. This is heavy gage 2" tube. Great for checking squareness and to bolt a K frame into for seam welding it on the work bench. I originally made this for lopping off the 67-72 slant sux RH mount and for installing a V8 RH mount. Also you can see the modification of the front of the LH mount to 68 up V8 Heres pix.

Not sure on big block, but it's the same centerlink all 67-72 slanty and small block V8. Thanks for the kudos. Just find a 68-76 slanty K frame that's ate up badly w rust. Should be plenty out there to choose from Make a jig off of it like I did, then cut off the idler arm mount. Trim it to fit, and xfer it to your K frame. Install a 68-72 idler arm. The 68 up idler arm mount bolt uses a castle nut and cotter pin. Best way to do all this is with your K frame out of the car.

Copied and saved. This is good stuff. Very creative mind. To bad your not closer my son would hire you.

Oldmanmopar Steve, thank you for the compliments. Your a heck of a builder going a long ways back yourself. Knowing all the workmanship you put into stuff humbles me and puts a smile on my face at the same time to know that you think of my work and ideas in high regard.

You should check out the home made lower radiator support, and LH front framerail repair I did with 14 gage steel sheet and box tube. It's in my build thread 67/68/69 cuda dilemma on the last 2-3 pages. I think you would really like the quality of the fab work and the ideas.

I built a jig to narrow a later /6 k-frame to fit a ‘66 down A-Body. Then I got to modify it when I figured out that the motor mounts were something like 2” forward of the later cars.

I wanted the better spool mounts, thru bolt idler and better sway bar. Best way I could come up with to do it all.

Mine is no where as nice or solid as yours moparmatt2000. Good stuff!

Still have the jig and modified k-frame. Car was too rusty and no one wants to buy the modified k-frame. :BangHead::D

These limiters I sell fit all 64-72 A body LH V8 motor mounts. These work just fine if your not building a real animal.

Very nice!

I did the first round of mods the the k-frame in November of ‘06 and the second round in February of ‘07.

At the time I was shooting for a turbo EFI slant with a 5 speed, 4 wheel disk brakes and a road race type suspension. I wanted all the benefits I could get, and thought it was a decent path to get them. In the end, I wasted time and money.

I’d post links to the slantsix.org threads, but I just looked and none of the pictures show up so kind of worthless.

Very nice, I like it!

Finally got off my dead *** and welded it up this past weekend. Now my 67 slant sux K frame is officially modded to a 68-72 V8 K frame.

Your welds are better than factory, but then again so are mine and my skills fall into the category "I can melt metal and it stays together". Nice job...
