Used it years ago with great results
Had an old absolutely worn out lawn mower that I could only get half a lawn mowing out of not to mention plug life.
I used it out of the can way thicker than honey.
Anybody else have an STP story ??

Daddy used it in his 65 Falcon for YEARS with me telling him he was messin up. He'd just add some when it got time for an oil change instead of changing the oil. I cussed him to myself when I rebuild that engine. I had to chip all the concrete sludge out of that engine with a hammer and chisel. True story. It works well for its intended purposes, but there are WAY better products on the market today.

I was in a nostalgic mood
I took an intake off a Ford that had been running Quaker and STP ...not exaggerating there was 3/4 inch of sludge in the lifter valley
 
Wait until you try to take one apart that is so coked up you can't get the oil pan off & when the valve covers are removed there is a perfect mold of the underside. I'm not kidding, I was commissioned to rebuild a 302 Ford for a neighbor. I asked her about it, she was an older widow & her response was, "I never knew the oil needed to be changed, my husband took care of all of the car stuff when he was alive".
 
When I was a teenager, my dad decided that the leaking power steering pump in our ‘74 Impala wagon was too much of a pain to to replace so he drained it and refilled it with STP instead. I guess he couldn’t be bothered since I was the only one using it to go back and forth to high school for the Winter. I used to have to warm it up for 20 minutes every morning just so I could turn the steering wheel. What a PIA. That stuff is like glue when it’s cold.

I bought my own replacement car in the Spring and let him deal with the Impala. I think he sold the car and never replaced the pump.

He never was much of a mechanic.
 
My best friend when he turned 16 inherited his older brothers 66 SS396 Chevelle 4 speed. It was a very nice car but used ungodly amounts of oil. He just kept adding STP and the oil consumption slowed considerably. After a while he quit putting oil in just STP. When he would back it down hard it would blow out big fireballs from the exhaust. One night he let another guy drive it, he drove it underneath a semi trailer cutting the roof off. They ducked just in time. And that's the truth!

I have a good power steering story also. I came home one day and my younger brother asked me to look at his car. He said he added some PS fluid and his steering was howling real bad. He started it up for me and WOW what a howl and stink. He shut it off. I asked him what oil he added-he handed me one of my Hypoid oil-rear end oil. On the back it said for steering systems. It didn't say power or manual. He learned the hard way.
 
I hate to admit it, but I loaded up a Chevy 454 that had a slight bottom end knock with STP so I could trade it in on a 79 Dodge Magnum XE. They drove it around to the back lot, I signed the loan papers & away I went. I never heard a thing about it.
 
As a kid I thought the decals were cool, 1970 ish.
I have a large metal STP oval sign in my garage. Regardless of what it was good for (or wasn’t good for) it is a deep part of our automotive history. I like seeing it on the wall.
 
When I was a kid I always remember dad using it with every oil change. He never used it as a "top-up".
I've used it occasionally recently, the stickers are cool.
 
I just painted the **** out of my timing chain for my smallblock with it on my 360 build. LOL. It’ll be fine. Nice N Sticky.
 
I have never used STP oil or oil additive but the additive seems similar to the lucas oil additive which is what I grew up with. As long as I've been into cars (since the early 2000s), the lucas oil logo seems to be a main staple of any parts store.

$50 from a friend after he came home drunk one night. Had the sense to open the garage door to pull it in he just don’t have the sense to stop once he got in. First thing I did was change the oil and when I fired it up it had a rod knock. Jeff said oh yea just add a couple cans of Stp to it. It will quite down. It did and I beat the hell out of that 350 until one night driving down the highway my friends girlfriend fell off his lap and dropped it into first. It really started knocking then. Drove them home and went home myself. Dropped the pan the next day and it had spun 7 rod bearings. It got a 455 in it two days later.

This was our go to stuff for engine assembly lube in the 70's anyway. 50% oil 50% STP slathered on parts before assembly. Never had an engine failure.

My friend in High school had a 70 Road Runner... He drove it to Car Craft Nationals one year and was complaining that he used 2 quarts of oil to go back and fourth... One other friend of ours with a 66 Impala with a 396 heard him complaining and said, "That's nothing, I used 6 quarts going there and back"... :BangHead:

My junior year of high school, there was a kid from our neighborhood that had a 79 Camaro base model with a souped up 350... There was a part of town that had a nice stretch of road with a 55 MPH speed limit he used to turn off the lights at night and speed by where the cops used to take radar... With the lights off, the cops could catch the speed on the radar, but couldn't see him going by...

He was doing this one night and came on a red stop light... There was a late sports bus that had just dropped off some athletes from an after school meet and was returning to the bus station and had the green light to cross the road... The Camaro tried to stop, but was going too fast and went under the back of the bus, peeled the roof off of his car, then hit and totalled another car waiting in the left turn lane from the other direction... It decapitated the two students in the front seat, and killed one of the guys in the back seat... Only one guy in the back seat survived...

He tried to stop, but was going too fast and left skid marks long enough to stop his car from 75 MPH, and still had enough momentum to take the roof off his car and total another stopped car waiting in the left turn lane from the other direction... They determined that he was going at least 100 MPH when he approached the intersection... The bus driver didn't even know she had been in an accident as it felt like she just hit a big bump... When she inspected the bus at the station, she found the damage and back tracked her trail and returned to the scene of the accident... They later found the driver's necklace wrapped around the bus's tailpipe - unbroken...

The driver of the Camaro lived in our neighborhood and used to ride the bus with us to jr. high and high school...
 
My high school '57 Olds had cracked heads right into the oil galleries.

During a Friday night cruise I would consume 5 quarts of oil and two qts of STP...
 
About 1976 my cousin had a 66 Chevell 396 with what looked like a ugly metallic green spray bomb paint over bondo. Went like hell but would leave a lot of blue smoke behind it. Used STP and never failed while he owned it

Tinley Park, IL about 1984...

There are 3 high schools in that district, I sent both of my sons to one of the other ones in that district and they still tell that story students... When my son's heard it at school, they already knew it from me... The dean of the school my sons went to was the assistant dean at my school back in the early 80's...
