There’s an electroplating place in El Paso, on Hawkins Blvd, you might want to look them up. Prices along southern border tend to be somewhat less than elsewhere.

Chrome plating got very expensive when the EPA got involved because of careless platers dumping their chemicals instead of disposing of them properly. There are a ton of guide lines, rules & regulations the have to abide by now.

Like said above, Tri-City Plating in Tennessee. They usually have some in stock and just want your cores, that is how I have done it with them.

Because of EPA rules, as well as materials cost, the two chrome houses here in Tucson no longer do triple plating opting to eliminate the copper layer. Went to Vern's Chrome in Los Angeles but it was $500 per bumper which included a bit of straightening. Same job here was quoted at $350. the bumpers came out spectacular. Food for thought when you see lesser prices being quoted.

Is there really such a thing as "Triple Chrome" ? I understood it just meant they spent more time on each strep .

I used to know a woman that could suck the chrome off a bumper.... :D

But she couldn't put it back on.... :BangHead:

Triple plating refers to a nickel plate base layer, then copper, and finally chrome on top is how I understand it. My understanding is show chrome is what it is because it uses this triple plating process.

It's not "triple chrome plating", it's triple layer plating, "copper, nickel & then chrome". After the initial polishing of the base metal, it's cleaned, plated with copper to fill any minute imperfections. Then it's cleaned again & nickel plated, then cleaned again & chrome plated. When I was in my teens, I worked for a guy who also owned a chrome shop, to earn extra money I worked at the chrome shop at night cleaning & polishing parts before they went to the plating side.

So all chrome is 3 layered or just the good stuff?

The "good" plating shops use the triple layer plating process. It comes down to doing your home work on whom ever you use. At least that has been my experience, now days, chrome doesn't do much for me. I tend to lean more towards powder coating for ease of cleaning, not to mention you can get colors with powder coating.

Thanks for all the input guys. Try City wants $950 for both of them, a place in Miami wanted $1600! Quite a difference. Thanks again AL

@Demonracer - Thanks for chiming in given you experience. I was incorrect in which layer was the base and middle application.

@mopar373 - Thanks for stating the quoted prices. In comparing it would seem I did not pay way to much after all.

If you don't mind shipping, Royal Silver in Norfolk, VA is great. They did mine (73 Sport) and they turned out beautiful. But like others have said, triple plating is expensive. But it will look much better, and last longer, than what you get from an aftermarket bumper or a budget plater.

Who can re-chrome my bumpers for less than a small fortune. 66 Valiant Front & rear

I paid $400 each a few years back when I got my car stripped to bare metal and repainted with a catalyzed single stage including bodywork, door jams and trunk. I had already done the engine compartment. I had to go out of state to get it done, but including the bumpers the whole job was only $6200.

I took some of your advice and called Tri-City Plating after checking out a bunch if others. Looks like they will be doing the bumpers for my 71 Demon. Thx to all for the input!!
