Just wondering if anyone has converted the standard 7" headlights to LED? I'm looking to swap out my standard 7" headlights on my 69 GTS to LED units. If so was is plug & play?
Are any relays needed?

Thanks for your help!
Stu.

Truck lites in the 66 Barracuda, plug and play. JW Speaker for the 67 Barracuda, plug and play but not installed yet. I went LED for the low power requirements and DOT approved. Can't really give a comparison, just wanted more light and less draw. Maybe this spring I'll feel like taking the 66 out and get a real feel for the difference.

Thank you for your feedback. I’ll check out those companies. I’m curious why you used 2 different companies?

Don’t overlook Quadratec LED headlights. Yes I know Quadratec sells Jeep parts, but their headlights are plug and play and no hacking the the headlight buckets either. I stuck a pair ($329 shipped) in my Duster when I decided I was going to sell the Jeep... which I originally bought the lights for lol. They are bright and don’t look too much like the weird alien looking LED headlights out there, unless you prefer that look.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll check Quadratec and see what they got. I’m definitely not looking for the “Alien Look” I want the more traditional look.

I bought the Truck lites a while back but when Headlight Revolution had it's Christmas sale, the JW Speaker LEDs were a lot cheaper than the Truck lites. They were both DOT approved so I thought I'd do my own comparison.

Hell that’s cheap! Those pics look great too. Thanks for sharing

Yea I originally wanted ones that looked more stock, which I found, but they were a little more expensive (maybe 20-30 bucks more). These were an open/damaged box. No big deal. You have to shave some of the aluminum fins on the back of the light to get them to sit in a little deeper. No big deal maybe 2 minutes of work with a cutting wheel and what ever disc you have on it...

That's an amazing difference from OEM.

I agree! I always hated driving at night, especially with my kids. I fixed all the lights (replaced bulbs is all really), installed the new LED headlights and now I can go anywhere at any time and not worry about being able to see at night.. Edit- the only lights I haven't replaced yet are the dash lights, which I will do soon but don't know what color LEDs i want...

Some of the other lights mentioned trucklites (had 2 sets on my 14 then 15 rubicon and were great), KC, quadratec, and JW speaker are 100% much better lights with better beam patterns and will probably last longer... but this is not a daily driver just a fun weekend car being built on a budget of an unemployed college student with 3 kids and a wife...

Some great comments and info. Thank you!

Thank you!
I had them installed on the Jeep and really liked them, enough to take them out of the Jeep to install on the Duster... and the wiring on the Duster is barely even good enough to run anything more than the engine right now... lol

Don’t worry, I bought all new wiring harnesses but haven’t gotten to that stage of the build yet.

By the way, in case anyone was curious why the hood is open in that picture... the rest of the picture... you can laugh now but it was 30 degrees out in this photo and about a football field away from my house... had to walk back for the truck just to jumpstart the Duster... lol

“and the wiring on the Duster is barely even good enough to run anything more than the engine right now“.

Agh, this hits too close to home and precisely describes the wiring situation on my Dart. Couldn’t have said it better.

Not a fan of the googly eye LEDs IMHO. I bought these from summit racing Hella 7" H4 headlamps. I am considering getting H4 LED bulbs to put in them. I am going to research the amp draw on the LED drop in bulbs VS the H4 drop in bulbs before I pull the trigger on a pair of the LED H4 drop ins.

Heres pix. I bought a few other needed things to bump the summit order to $100 to get the free shipping. The pix of the LED H4 bulb style I have been looking at. Not necessarily these particular ones, but something along these lines that will fit the Hella housings

I’m sure you’ll find the draw on the LED’s way lower than the H4’s

What you REALLY need to do is to upgrade the system. You'd probably be happy with good old silverline headlights after the system upgrade. headlight relays
