Dimensions - early Valiant

Hello.
I'm looking at tackling a new build an thinking an early Valiant 64-66 is about the right size and weight. Can someone give me the dimensions of the engine bay please in particular the height from the "K" member to the underside of the hood. I don't want anything protruding.

I just checked my 63 Valiant with no engine installed and its about 25" from the center of the K-Frame to a central rib on the underside of the hood. Then from the mounting holes where the motor mounts bolt to the K-frame (no motor mounts installed) it is approximately 22" to the bottom of the hood on either side. Hope this helps.

Why not tell us what you plan to install? If someone's done it, they can give you some pointers.

No worries. I'm in Australia and interested in swapping in a a standard Ford Turbo Barra engine. These things make enough grunt out of the factory to get a heavy Falcon down a race track on regular radials in 12.6 secs. Early Valiant is 1000lbs lighter but my not have the height in the engine bay.

I'm a little familiar with those. That will be a cool swap! Have you gotten the measurements you need? I have a 64 Valiant as my everyday driver.
 
Looks too tall to me but friggin 505HP in "overboost" from a stock inline 6 sounds pretty F'n worth a cowl induction hood to me! What transmission fits?
 
Barra is 26.77 tall from sump to crossover pipe

"..The Overall length from back of block to edge of front pulley- 800mm (31.49")

Overall width from edge of turbo to edge of intake- 730mm (28.74")

Overall height from bottom of sump to top of crossover pipe- 680mm. (26.77").."

XR6T engine measurements

I measured my slant with a turbo off the driver side at 27, 31 long and about 25 tall. If you can get a "rear sump" (longitudinal) pan to nest into the K, you got a chance dropping that beast in there although your like an inch in every direction within fitting it into an early A with a thin radiator. May have to go with a modified K member just to get the motor to sit a little lower as the bottom of a slant is flush with the bottom of the K +- 1/4 inch in my case.

Has it's own bellhousing pattern. Quicktime makes bellhousings for it for a T56 and Powerglide. An Aussie company makes a bellhousing for it for a turbo 400.
 
Well that caught your interest. The Barra height is my biggest concern. The 3rd version had a rear sump but still has a problematic oil pan. If I can do it without impacting on structural integrity I'm happy to cut/modify the k member. I'm not looking for a monster project but whose to say I couldn't chuck the whole front suspension and crossmember in the bin and wheel something else under it? I'm really just looking for a street and stripper that looks like Grandpa spec outside that I can cruise in, get decent mileage, with factory reliability and still take to a track at my whim. Sounds cool hey!

Yep. 28.5 inches from the inside of one rail to the inside of the other rail. FYI this measurement is the same at the back of the k member also so I'm assuming it carries all the way way through

have you seen the purple VC Valiant with the Barra ?
if it fits in a 66-67 vc it should not be a problem in an AP5 / AP6
Check with an engineer for the power to weight rules in S.A Because in QLD AP5/AP6 is to light for a Turbo Barra
