Big Block Oil Pump Question

Can this plug on the back of a big block oil pump be replaced with a recessed plug? Are they NPT threads?

No it's a straight thread. And no I would not replace it with a recessed plug. It is recessed on the inside where the relief spring fits in it.

No. I'm just contemplating removing the front motorplate in my 66 Dart and making up a set of solid mounts instead. It shouldn't be a problem, but figured I'd ask since I've never taken apart a big block oil pump before. That plug is awfully close to where the mount will be.
 
If you fab your mounts with factory mounts there is plenty of clearance. If you need any mounts let me know. I've got stuff kind of hidden away right now, but can always find a set. We'll be back up that way on Feb. 6.

Thanks Jim! I may have to take you up on that offer. It'd be nice to have a couple brackets bolted to the block to be able to build off of.

Do you have any that take the old biscuit style mounts?
 
Yes, the only spares I have are biscuit mounts. I'll look around this weekend. Also still debating about going to the swap meet in Stockton next Sunday.

If you find some that I could make work, that'd be great! Just let me know. I'll be curious to hear how the Stockton swap meet is. Unfortunately, I can't make it.

Looks good! That would be a good starting point to build a mount for my 66. Here's what I'm workin with:

sometimes a truck mount works well on l side This allows youto focus on l side and pinion angle

I pulled out a pair of mounts today before the rain hit. I'm on the fence on the swap meet, but we're heading to Grass Valley on the 6th for my granddaughter's birthday.

Pretty much all B/E body from the mid-60s (or before) through the early 1970s (spool mounts came out on those cars in 1974). Also found on some late-60s through early-70s c-bodies (not sure on those years, but also ended in 1973).
 
Jim’s mounts are 66-72 B,C and E body. The pass mount is a bolt in deal on the 67-72 A bodies with a V8 K member. You use the A body biscuit mount. The drivers side is the fun one. Kim

On second thought, I can use both of them. If needed, I can cut and stack the pass one to make it work. I'll take them! I'll shoot you a PM.

Thanks Kim. On the 66 I' building, the mounting pad on the K-member is directly below the lugs on the block - slightly different than the 67-72's. I'm pretty sure I can make it work though.
 
Hey Jim - those mounts worked out great. With a little modification, they turned into great BB early A mounts. I ended up going with poly bushings. I just have to finish bolting the bottom portion up to the K-member.
