Edelbrock—Layoffs

Electric ain't got squat to do with this one. Edelbrock RELOCATED to Memphis Tennessee, after buying out Comp Cams and all of their affiliates. The only thing staying in Californika is the Edelbrock foundry, because the EPA will not allow them to build a new one.

Yep, Edelbrock is done with Kommifornia and anyone who doesn't want to leave that paradise and relocate to Tennessee is SOL...

High tax state vs. low tax state. A business has to survive. Consolidation of companies owned under one umbrella. Happens all the time. 65'

This is 100% correct, I have friends who work at the Torrance location and this move has been planned for a LONG time to cut costs. They don't seem too upset about it though, seems like they had like a 1-2 year notice so that they could consider getting new jobs or following the company over. They all agree that the current owners are assholes and the company is slowly going down the drain from the inside out.

Hopefully the move will change some of that. It's amazing how the negativity of just one person can affect a huge corporation like that, but it sure can. I've seen it first hand.

yes. it was bought out with the intentions of combining operations to save (make more) money. I’d imagine this wasn’t a huge surprise after Comp was bought out.

Edelbrock did have a banner year in sales with everyone at home with nothing to do but buy stuff. Along with most all in that industry.

Wouldn’t be surprised if some older employees cash out on their expensive Los Angeles homes to work in Memphis and then retire there.

I wasn't aware that Edlebrock had new owners. Is it in the family at all anymore?

IIRC, this is the second owner since family sold it.

The family wasn’t that great. Everything was paid for so that masked some things. But near the end, Vic was hemorrhaging money on and making unprofessional moves.

The kids couldn’t do it. Too many issues.

Yup, Vic really had the head for business. Cammie and Christy.....well.......

i heard from a executive that Vic didn’t either. Was an owner that wanted to hear he wanted to hear. Emporer wearing no clothes catches up to you.

kids had issues that fell close to the family tree... gurgle-gurgle, sniff-sniff

I don't know. I had the honor of meeting him several times back in the 80s, as I know someone who knew him well. But then, I certainly wasn't around him a lot at all......so my perception may have been skewed. lol

I've always liked most of their intakes and I do like their carburetors. But that's about where it stops. Their valve train products have always been lacking to me. They just started out behind everybody else and kinda stayed there.

don't forget the foreign business under cutting them with there junk / and how many years have we been looking for a better head? someone heard us /that could have been them making money but just sitting on there name /you got to keep up with demand

It won’t be long before they too cave, or are compelled more likely, to have castings done overseas (China) , sent here in raw form at first for machining, but ultimately then being done in China, and the only thing Edelbrock can claim is “designed and engineered in the USA” just like most everything else these days

I boughtba 55 tv and there was a big American flag on the box. "Designed and supported 100% in USA"......made in China

I think they are already. I don't give a **** what they say. I've suspected it for years.

they owned and still own a foundry. They cast and make stuff for other companies too. I’ve been on a tour there and saw Ford Motorsport there being machined.

You don’t own a foundry for no reason. It’s hard to move a foundry and if you read the article, that’s staying in CA. That’s a unique asset that could cast parts for the other brands the conglomerate owns.

I hope you're right.

Well just be aware that this stuff can go away almost overnight it's not like anyone's running out to design and manufacture cutting edge small block mopar parts hold on to the good stuff. I have to believe that they will follow the market LS and some gen 3 stuff. Just like the six pack manifolds that basically disappeared within a couple of years. Who knows but you may want to get those Victor Junior heads while you can.

Jack and Jill worked at Edelbrock until the work did slack off...

"I can't decide", Victor cried...

Whether to lay Jill... or Jack off....

It isn't just taxes. Caustic relationships with local and state officials also.

The big push to go electric will kill our hobby off and all the vendors who support it.

Get real not in your, or your children's lifetimes...

And with the passing of the minimum wage increase phasing in. It will only get worse.

How many Edelbrock employees do you think are working for minimum wage??? Frankly I'm tired of subsidizing for profit companies who don't even pay two full time workers enough to live on...
