Edelbrock—Layoffs

-
Whatever you do, don’t expect you’re going see those cheaper operating costs boil down to lower prices on edelbrock products.

Probably see a nice bonus check for the CEO though. Bunch of crooks.

It won’t be long before they too cave, or are compelled more likely, to have castings done overseas (China) , sent here in raw form at first for machining, but ultimately then being done in China, and the only thing Edelbrock can claim is “designed and engineered in the USA” just like most everything else these days

I'd be happy with that, if they had a limited run of the 340 6packs every so often, as demand permits!

Dream on, we've been trying to get them to make a new run of STR 12s for a decade and they sell for a lot more than a six pack manifold ever will...

Get real not in your, or your children's lifetimes...

How many Edelbrock employees do you think are working for minimum wage??? Frankly I'm tired of subsidizing for profit companies who don't even pay two full time workers enough to live on...

hey str12-340 - i'm sorry to tell you this but "your children" will NOT be going to any drag racing events with "internal combustion" race cars. General Motors just announced yesterday that they will STOP manufacturing ANY internal combustion cars beginning in 2035. that's only 14 years from today and in regards to engineering and tooling and test marketing and all the other stuff involved in building cars - you can decrease that 14 years to 10 as far as any availability of "gas powered" cars from GM. their announcement did say they would still be building gas and diesel light trucks. so maybe "your children" will be drag racing small block Tahoe's. Ford is also jumping on the "all electric" bandwagon at least in the commercials they are running here in Pittsburgh, PA. if you are 67 years old like i am, there will be probably another 10 years left of the car hobby. by then, i probably won't be doing burn-outs with my 4 speed Barracudas. whatever you had planned on doing with a "muscle car" - you better do it in the next 5 years because after that - all the Hemi Cudas and Boss Mustangs will be converted to "solar power and paddle sifting."

Imagine a time when a person had the coolest Horse as your form of transportation.... Bling saddles, the jaw dropping gallop, and so on then. Then BAM here comes the Automobile.... You are seeing it now with the Combustion engine. It's on a short leash in our world.

If this thread even exist 10 years from now come back to read it and don't be surprised if it ain't true....

Electric ain't got squat to do with this one. Edelbrock RELOCATED to Memphis Tennessee, after buying out Comp Cams and all of their affiliates. The only thing staying in Californika is the Edelbrock foundry, because the EPA will not allow them to build a new one.
I didn't say electric had anything to do with this. But if you're paying attention to the new sherrif in town, electric is being pushed bigtime, and that will eventually kill the hobby as we know it today.

Maybe. IMO, it's a long way off yet. The technology just isn't there. Yet.

I hear ya. I don't think those doing the pushing though have a clue as to how to make it work well on a grand scale yet. But they don't care if it does. They will ruin an industry and a way of life for millions, just to get 2 thumbs up from big tech who will gladly pay them big money to do it. Money talks.

And Al Gore said in his book in 1992 that the internal combustion engine would be banned by the year 2017! That’s the problem of making a prediction in your lifetime. When it doesn’t happen, you look like a bigger fool than you already are.

If you say so.

Edelbrock totally got bought out by a big conglomerate. End of story. They're doing all this not to save money but to make money that's what big conglomerates do.. profit margin will dictate their every move from here forward...
As far as turning this into a political discussion about the new administration raising minimum wage or Al Gore's bonehead statement that should all be taken to the political forum..
Because the big manufacturers are trying to go all electric in the next 14 or 15 years doesn't mean that day one when the very start of producing that we're not going to see drag racing at the drag strip with muscle cars... They're not going to instantly throw 2030 gas powered cars in the dumpster in 2035.... Let's get a grip here...

Like it or not. Politics touches all walks of life.
There's a place for it...
but you do have the advantage here because this is a radical right wing owned and monitored Forum so you probably can get away with saying whatever you want but when I say something it will get stricken down or I'll get locked out of the thread...
Ask me how I know...

The waste and damage to the planet that goes into making those batteries for electric cars is enormous. Also, going to need a billion more windmills to power recharge stations. This is why I think with coal and oil as readily available as it is, and as cheap as it is, will make all cars being electric just a fantasy. Even those that claim it needs to be done do not live by their own standards. One trip in their private plane leaves a greater carbon footprint than most of us will in our life time in our cars. Yet, they continue. If you believe something, you'll lead by example. Actions speak louder than words. And the biggest pushers of this refuse to give up the escalade parades and private jets.

I agree. Within the next 10-20 years, it will be the much safer self-driving cars that kill manual driving for those who can’t afford to pay the ultra-high insurance costs to steer themselves.

yes. it was bought out with the intentions of combining operations to save (make more) money. I’d imagine this wasn’t a huge surprise after they were bought out.

Edelbrock did have a banner year in sales with everyone at home with nothing to do but buy stuff. Along with most all in that industry.

Wouldn’t be surprised if some older employees cash out on their expensive Los Angeles homes to work in Memphis and then retire there.

I dont live in Tennesse

Just think , when all cars are elec. , an electromagnetic burst would make all cars and electronic devises , absolutely useless !

I agree, and then how many years later was it??? the 1950's, all of a sudden everyone wanted a horse and be a real cowboy ( or make believe cowboy). The horse industry as been going full steam ahead ever since. A many billion $$$ industry.
I also bet if gas powered cars cease production, there will be plenty of people that want one for their hobby. Trucks will also see further boost in interest. The old truck market continues to climb.
Many companies will not jump on the China bandwagon, because they know it will eventually be a death blow to their business.

I always ask cig smoking friends “at what point will the cost of cigarettes be to much for you to then quit”?? So far, as those prices have steadily climbed , I haven’t seen anyone quit yet. And it’ll be like that for gas powered vehicles in a way. We’ll all pay a little more as time goes by, the price of gas will keep rising, we’ll be more aware and maybe change habits a little, some a lot. Some may dump the gas hogs and buy a thrifty car. Then the real hammer blow will be the additional fees you will pay to license, maybe title, a new tax/fee for gasoline powered, more road use taxes, skys the limit. Pollution taxes. And then the insurance companies get in on it. Rates for gasoline powered vehicles will go up. Oh you can drive your gas powered vehicle all you want, buy “you gonna pay”:soapbox:
