Are A bodies more popular than B bodies?

-
I have no deep interest in E or B cars...although I have made reasonable offers to owners of them over the years...they just seem to always want 15-20% more than I will pay for something I don’t want that badly... I looked at a 68 Charger project recently...guy wanted $20 and I offered $16...he will likely get it just not from me...now if it was a 71 Demon 4 speed I would have went up $4 grand without batting an eye

A body is more popular than a B body at my house. But it loses out to the C body crowd.

That’s a beautiful GTX.

Who’s Beetle is in the background?

It looks like a ‘65 or ‘66.
Don't know. But you are not the first to ask. This vid is from when and where I bought the car. Because car is completely non number matching? I am considering an upgrade to a hemi car. But it's really tough pulling a very decent running 440 because you want more? Lol. Its always about MORE!

Stroke it!! Kim

When I started this site in 2003, a bodies were the red headed step child of the mopar world. I kind of miss those days lol

still are.. only reason they seem more popular is that they are still cheap compared to B&E bodies and they aren't ugly *** F bodies.

To each their own, but I don't mind the look of an F-Body. I think the suspension design was a step back from the A-Body, but I think they have good proportions and I actually like the interior and dash a bunch more than the A-Body. If F-Body parts were more available, I would even entertain the idea of trying to retro fit an A-Body suspension under one and sell my Duster.

Unless I was restricted to keeping the F-Body emission equipment. Then there is no way I would move to a '76+ platform where I had to keep lean burn and smog pumps.

Everyone has their likes and dislikes, not trying to change yours. Just my thoughts.

we are talking majority and popularity not a few guys that like the F-body better...

I don't dislike any car out there, I am even a fan of Lada and yugos and A body 4 doors, so I am for sure a very diverse car enthusiasts.
However, in the case of the road runner, I'm not planning on keeping it so I just wanted to make sure I didn't acquire a car that I'd get stuck with. If it were a car I wanted to keep, I wouldn't care how desirable or who doesn't like it, I'd keep it and love it anyway.

Based on the massive amounts of interest and high volume of PMs I received regarding the road runner, tells me this is going to be an easy dump.

The difference in price drives a lot of people. Why will a hemi car cost ore than a 383 car? Not just the are factor but it is the category. Hardly anyone will pay the same for a 383 car as a hemi car, considering same condition and model.
Yes there people that prefer a 70 Duster over a 70 Roadrunner, but when time comes to write the check, logic prevails!

A-bodies were Chrysler's bottom economy line builds. F-bodies continued that market focus with even lower priced builds. All the way up to Chrysler letter cars. (Which are actually mostly numbers. But the market folks call them "Letter cars.") Their top of the line builds. Primarily off the C-body platform. For is why A-bodies are playing catchup in the classic market arena. They started lower on the build quality priority list. But they are starting making noise.

I have been keeping an eye out for a special A-body/F-body made at Chrysler plants in Mexico. Im not really sure what it is? I saw one in the late 80s. A 76 or 77 what they called a Volare Superbee? It had a high compression 360 4 barrel that ran on leaded gas that they still had. I asked. "Volare is a Plymouth. Superbee is a Dodge. The car has neither badging? So which is it?" The only answer I got was "Si Senior." But it was said to be the fastest car ever built in Mexico. (Certainly at that time. And possibly since.) Looking into it? It was common for Mexico to build with surplus and/or obsolete parts from Chrysler. Especially during 60s-80s. If I do run across one? Buying it is the easy part. Getting it to the States legally is another story?

But would be fun. Bring it to a track and explaining that it's a 400 HP pure stock 3000 lb car? A Volare! (Which actually look better than the performance options from US?) You would be dusting most any pure stocker out there? If chassis tuned with good tire balance? 11 sec is possible? That is Hellcat numbers. When I first heard the car rumble by is when it caught my attention. But if your tech guys are like anything like ours here at Minnesota Brainard Intn Raceway? They are VERY picky and would say "Nice try! And slap an F/X label on window. (Factory experimental. Thus any garage build) But in "Purist sence?" They would be wrong. This did roll off factory line like this. (Oh, and I will bet my 401k that Mexico was not the best at any documentation?)

There was an A body made in Mexico that resembled a Duster, but was called a Super Bee. The only one I have seen was 318 powered, claimed 270 or 275 hp on the hood scoop and had a 3 spd manual

I believe the "Volare" I saw was too a 3 spd manual. Again, I'm not totally sure what I was looking at? I was walking around with a Margareta in my hand. But it was not something built in US. Even lettering was different. With brighter and 3 different paint colors. There may have been some customization too? But I researched when got home. And it looks as if it did exist at one time. And yes, even the US Volare was a little "Duster" looking.

There are Mexican SuperBees made on the Volare. I have seen several on FB sites that are all about F bodies. Always shown by their Mexican owner. There are 3-4 F body sites there on FacBook. A really great group of Mopar enthusiasts. Those guys are cheaper than the cheapest slant A body guy!
I got my first Volare about 4 years ago, and down to one rust free slant example. I got interested in them mainly to learn about them and they are so, so cheap! The look to be what they are, basically, a newer version of the Duster. Rust was a problem in '76-7 and they are cheap cars (unless a T top SuperCoupe or kit car). A car built after '71 is usually somewhat cheap no matter what brand!!

That particular paint scheme was available in US , it is the sales brochure, not sure what year. If you go on a FB F body site, someone there can tell you the while history of the F body Mexican SperBee!
Heck my '95 3500 Ram was built in Mexico!!! I bought it new and had faint aroma of Tacos when I first stepped in the sucker!!!

The 78 "Super coup" does look more like what I saw. But the taillights were different. I was later told that the "Mexico" flavor had both Plymouth and Dodge body parts. Again, why I keep an eye out when traveling south of the boarder. Very unique.

If you wanna drive, get an A body
If you have a big garage, get a B Body.
Yea. I got into this when nice grandma A bodies were in the bone yards being scraped.
Not anymore
But FWIW a first gen Road Runner is the coolest car ever made.
Because me and Motor Trend said so, in 1969.
Hollywood and what used to be Chrysler hasn't ruined that name, yet

While on the subject of F bodies I bet .Before long we will see F body restomods with their factory spoilers, wheel flares, and gen 3 Hemis!!! And maybe there will be guys at BJ paying some big $$$ for such!??? anyway! ha

I have an A-body, B-body and E-body. And they are noticeably different. B-bodies are higher build quality than A or E. And handle the big block better. (I wouldn't do much hard corning with a big block in an A-body.) But B-body actually does corner decent. Far better than it looks.

It was reported on the set of the movie Bullitt that the Charger had to routinely slow to let the Mustang catch up.

In the late 90s I was watching one of thoughs late Sunday morning Road and Track shows. Comparing the new Challenger, Camero and Mustang. (Base model V-8s) on a road course. The complaint was that none of the three cornered very well. The Camero out performed the other 2. But not by anything significant. Thus concluding everyone's complaints. They then brought out a base model '69 Charger. 383 auto transmission. The crews and commentators were literally laughing. As the test driver. Saying he has not driven a Charger of that era before. But expects it to stumble. He took it around that track. Got out after tying the Camaro's time. Smiling. "It definitely corners better than you would think." "Some body roll." But the 383 had enough power to pull out of trouble." I of course was laughing. Yelling at the screen. "Upgrade the torsion bars to what the Hemi and/or 440-6 cars had? "Then try?" Bye bye Camaro!"

My buddy was surprised k had to drop the trans down to get to some of the bell housing bolts in both my Dart and my C body cars.
