Clutch set up issues

Installed new McLeod diaphragm clutch, removed the clutch spring above pedal, and had no where to hook the fork spring to so I drilled a small hole in the bell by the starter (as shown by yellow arrow).
I need advice on how to set this up. I read to have the throw out bearing barely touching the fingers but the pedal does not seem to have any spring to it...basically have to pull it back up...any advice or 'thread' someone can direct me to?

Take a small strap of alu or sreel and drill a 3/8" hole in one end and a hole on the opposite end the dia of the spring wire. Mount it with the bottom bolt of the z bar pivot, adj your spring accordingly, enough to have a little play between the bearing and press plate.
As for your pedal, I put a weak spring in place of the overcenter spring, it helps a little.

Is this smaller over center spring something Brewers would sell?

The throw out bearing should not ride on the pressure plate fingers. The bearing will go out and eat up the PP fingers.

No, not the one that I adapted, Hardware store. You need a little heavier spring than you think, not a throttle return spring for instance. Not sure that I have a picture of mine. The spring needs to be heavy enough to hold the pedal up. Not going out to the shop today to try and snap a picture, too damn cold, -1 below and snowing.

Thanks guys...fiddled around with it yesterday and managed to get the pedal to spring back much better. Photos are much appreciated.
Now I gotta make some adjustments on my shift linkages cause it does not shift smooth at all...rebuilt 833 and it seems that 1st and second are very short throws and 3rd and 4th much longer throws and way more smooth shifting in comparison.

It is freshly rebuilt trans ....is it possibly normal for it to be not shifting smoothly cause it needs to be broken in?
Or should it be smoother than ever now that it's freshly rebuilt?

You can use a 1/4" bolt, there's a hole that goes through the shifter mechanism, to align the levers. Make sure that at the trans side cover, the arms are in the slots, there are pictures back in the threads , make sure that everything is in it's proper place..

When I installed it all back in, I did use a bolt to align the shifter...maybe I did something wrong or perhaps my shifter is bad? I will climb back under and re check to see if i can still get a bolt in there...
