I just got done installing a freeze plug kit on my 318 block I just wanted to make sure and see if these oil Galley plugs are in correctly? If not I have an extra set but I'm just making sure in case there in wrong I don't want to have any oil issues. Thank you

I leave them out. They’re pretty much worthless.

Do you mind me asking a question? Here goes.

If the cam retaining plate covers both holes, why do the books all say to stake them in? I don’t get it. Like I said, I don’t use them. They are redundant.

But why stake them??? They can’t get out. They only way out is through that plate and no way can you turn them either.

That makes no sense to me.

I staked them as I was going along with the how to on installing core plugs, I hear what you are saying that the plate covers the holes and realized this after words. Surely there has to be a reason for them.

I put them in...they come in the kit with freeze plugs for a reason.....but do as you please...

I don't think a 340 ever had them, none of the old motors that I can remember had them and I have disassembled many SB mopars, mostly 73 and older.

I would endorse popping one back out and drilling a 1/16 hole in the cam thrust plate on that same side. Instant pressurized oil splattering all over the timing chain set.

The only mistake that can be made here is, If they are knocked in too far and block the oil feed hole to the mains.
