Junkyard 360 LA Head Porting Questions

-
I have driven a 12.2 to 1 cast iron head 360 based 410 stroker on drag week. Putting around on pump gas, sure. Step into at all and it will detonate. 7000, not something you really want. They become very needy up there and you just don’t need to go there. In order to make it do it and live, you could have built a 4” stroker that would be scary on the street and it would live forever.

7000 is doable. In fact it’s pretty simple. Why Chrysler guys shy away from RPM bewilders me.

Can you make power at 7000? Probably not unless you spend some money on heads and cam and gear it accordingly.

U forgot that this guy needs a reality check. He is a dreamer. Kim

Dont hurt to dream man. A 360 at 10:1 approx 400 hp + on pump gas in that Duster will tighten your arse up. Good luck with your build.

Tim

Yeah, that is a more realistic number to go for, considering it is only a 360 and seeing as it could possibly come out of a durango. I just like the idea of a hot street motor to wipe my friends chevy's off the map with. (they are starting to brag about how much better chevy's run than mopar's.)

I read only to this post (no.14) as I'd seen enough. Picked up on that 'simple 360 build' early on and then it got to the Super Street (10.90) level pretty quick. Lots of good advice, though mostly trying to convince you to keep it 'sane'. Building any Mopar primarily to beat a friend's Chevy not a good enough reason. You can have a bone-stock 360 and go to the bracket drags and win a shelf full of trophies. All it takes is a consistent car AND a consistent 'foot'. At the end of the day, by all means, build it the way YOU want it - but do it for the right reason(s) and have fun with it.

Take these folks advice, they know a thing, or 1000....

A 408 stroker, with decent heads and the right gearing just might send them boys looking for their SS emblems on the side of the rode... Seems all chevies are SS's....

There's a good example of a stock bottom end (meaning cast crank, factory rods, but 10.5:1 pistons) 360LA, with TrickFlow 190's making 530 on the dyno. That's pretty snappy for anyone on the street.

This guys car is a pretty good example of a lot of cars I see at TnT nights...it dynoed at "530hp", but if I recall correctly it only runs mid 11's.....That doesn't add up well...either happy dyno, or in efficient chassis, or bad converter, or bad (take your pick of a myriad of parts). The point being, I know a lot of cars that make big HP numbers that can't ET worth crap.

Don't get me wrong, its a very nice car...it just doesn't run the number I would expect.

Well I'm not vouching for the car, the OP was talking about and engine... so... Here's a "budget" non-stroker engine that makes 500+ hp....

Gotcha. This combo is nearly identical to one of my old motor's, I used the same cam with 10.8:1 compression, ported Edelbrocks (about the same as Trick Flows), 1.5 rockers, and a Victor intake....biggest difference was my car ran 10.57 (best), but normally ran 10.7's. I never dynoed it, but I guessed it made about 530hp (looking at ET/MPH).

Edit: Sorry, got off on a tangent....carry on.

I was running an LA 408 Stroker with 93+ magnum heads and making 443hp & 516 ftlbs on the dyno. Magnum heads flow better than LA in stock form and make good torque. You could probably do a little home porting on them and make even more power.

you left out the "dubble hump heads, 4 bolt main, fireball cam" them chevy boys got that recipe down pant now!! lol
I had that once before (built by an uncle) in a Chevy 2 with over 11.5:1, it ran pretty well. But my current 318 would kill it in the 1/8. I’ll know more about the quarter once I get the tune finalized

I’m about to engage in the same type of folly with a stock stroke 360 hydraulic roller block. Heads are either going to be 051 or 974 castings. Going to make use of the fuel that's recently became available to me, but I'm shooting for 11.5:1 and north of 6800 rpm.
